Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One distributor reports losses as sales fail to pick up in China

Just so people know. Because people on this site don't seem to know, the 100,000 units is a sold in number for day 1.

Also, when it comes to China market the offical sales numbers don't tell the whole picture. Plenty of people already have PS4 and Xbox One through grey market even though X1 is available officially.

Also a lot of stores have sold through the day 1 inventory of PS4 despite clearence not being given yet.

China is a hard market to crack and people expecting "millions to be sold" know nothing about the market. Even IDC predicted that 1 million cumulative sales between X1 and PS4 in 2015 would be a challenge and I would agree with that.

Looks like sony are better off waiting and pushing for a better deal. If they get one it could be huge so good luck to them.

The company Sony will be partnering has the same parent as Xbox One's partnered company.

I know that but they will likely ship a lot more ps4s which should give a profit.

At least it has sold better than in Japan

Nothing really surprising, I'd be surprised if it even does Japanese weekly numbers.
The only way it can increase sales is if it becomes moddable for piracy like X360.

Because it isn't a good console. It's a lesser version of a PS4 for nearly the same price, so why would they buy it? Especially considering the fact that China likes PC gaming more than consoles(duh)

The Chinese government really need to sort out their policies on games. Their restrictions are now negatively affecting Chinese companies as well.

But beneffiting a lot of other chinese companies.

Do bear in mind that the China console market usually ships around ~1.5m consoles per year at the moment. With peaks of over 2 million if say a new console is launched or takes off in a popular way.

This number includes last gen, current gen and Chinese made consoles. So taking all things into account the market is very small.

As an example, the hacked Xbox 360 install base is said to be approaching 3 million in China.

I'm so surpised! Given PC gaming or the black market is cheaper and better!!! PS4 will faulter as well. May do a bit better, but will eventually follow this lane as well.

See what many don't know is Nintendo dealt with the Chinese government a while back when they launched a cheap budget console over there. I'm guessing it was mainly to see how the gov. would respond. Judging from their lack of enthusiasm with launching stuff in China now, I'm guessing it went about as well as it is going for MS with the Xbox One :P
