I was just wondering, because Insomniac develops the games. But if it counts:

Sony: 3D platformers , action-adventure (Uncharted), racing sim, hack and slash

Nintendo: 2D platformers, whatever genre Zelda is in, RPGs (Xenoblade, Fire Emblem)

MS: FPS, TPS (Gears)

one question, is this about which genres do we think the big three's games are the best in the industry, or best of the big three?

What...?Are you sure...?

Why shouldn't I be sure?

Around the Network

Sony: Action Adventure
Nintendo: Platform and puzzeling
Microsoft: Shooting and online multiplayer games.

Pretty obvious isn't it?

Nintendo: Platformers
MS: Shooters
Sony: Cinematic

Sony - Story driven action adventure games
MS - FPS and Strategy
Nintendo - Platformers

The qestion is simple, among the first-party published game, which ones do you think each of them is best and worst at? I think Sony is best at hack n slash , simulation racing and TPS games. MS is best at FPS games. Nintendo is best at platformers.

Marcus Fenix and Cereza disagree.

Around the Network

nintedo - adventure,platformers
sony - racing
microsoft shooters

Any way, my opinion:
Nintendo: Platform
MS: Shooters
Sony: Adventure

Nintendo - Platformers
Microsoft - FPS
Sony - TPS, Action/Adventure, Platformers, RPG

First party published? Does Ratchet and Clank fit in that category?

Sony publishes them so it should fit

edit: as for my answer:

Sony and Nintendo are great allrounders so it is hard to decide..

Nintendo: Platformers (Mario) and Action-Adventures (Zelda and Metroid for example)

Sony: Third-person games but especially TPS. Also Racing Games (GT or Motor Storm)

I can't comment on Microsoft because i don't really know their games that well..

edit2: add RPG's to Nintendo (how could i forget that!?) - Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade

How can you forget Pokemon when talking about Nintendo's RPG's?

This I would go with as well. MS for shooters, Nintendo for platformers and Sony for adventure games.

But I would say that Sony is really good with both platformers and shooters as well, I would at least put them in second place for both. Nintendo in second place for adventure games.

So for all-around I think Sony would be the one with the biggest variety of genres with good or decent games. Microsoft also has a big variety but is missing out on especially platformers and adventure games. Nintendo on the other hand is missing out on shooters, especially, but also sports/racing games. They have their own such as Mario Kart etc. but lack a proper GT/Forza which Sony/MS has.

MS now that they have Minecraft and at least a timed exclusivity of Tomb Raider, and are hopefully working on Banjo 3 will fill in the gap which they currently have. Next generation Minecraft might be exclusive to the MS brand and Banjo might be re-born as an excellent series again. Tomb Raider I don't think will stay exclusive to MS permanently, but it would benefit them very much if it did.
