I dont think adding new items automatically makes ot a better game. NSMB was the first  Mario 2D platformer in years, amd it probably was one of the better ones for its day and age. You also have to remember that the games are compared to the competition of the time.

hmmmm... i dont think ive ever looked at it like that before. Yeah 2d Mario still craps on alot of other 2d platformers especially in that time when NSMB came out there wasnt that much in that genre anyway. I compare Mario games with each other and i just found NSMB...hell the whole series wanting. While they did get better over time. the NSMB games dont hold a candle to 3 or World. IMHO they are not even as good as those. And after 20 years am I expecting too much if I want them to be at least as good as games that came out on NES/SNES

I can absolutely see what you mean, but if you were to play SMB3 and NSMB side by side, what makes one better than the other? me, I love the wall jump, and I don't need a lot of power ups, but that doesn't mean I think NSMB is better than SMB3. What I've found lacking in the NSMB-series is the innovations. Super Mario used to be all about pushing the limits - in one way or another. And they all looked very different from each other. NSMB all looks the same, and doesn't add quite as much compared to what their predecessors managaed to cram in between titles.

I actually have played them both side by side to make sure I wasnt crazy and besides the points you've made. Ill also add I thought level design in 3 was WAY better, by a long shot. Items are important becasue IMHO thats part of the whole innovation and pushing the boundaries, i freaking raccoon tail and you can fly? there wasnt anything close to that in NSMB, we had to wait for the 3rd one to bring that back. 3 was longer, it was more challenging. Music was better. I like the wall jump too but it doesnt make up for the rest of the game. Not even close

I agree with you on almost every account; the raccoon siut is aweseom, but that's only because it open ups new areas to explore and beat a level. How was SMB3 longer though? I haven't finished NSMB yet, but NSMBWii has a ton of challenging bonus levels which adds game time and difficulty. But I do agree that Nintendo should step up and push some bounderies with NSMB! Or even better, drop the whole New thing; it isn't new any longer. Try out new things with every instalment and don't reuse the same damn art work and music!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

As someone who's just started playing Killzone Shadow Fall 1 and a half year after it got published just because I did read it wasn't good, it really hurts to read this... Thank god I'm more and more letting go of reading all the sh!t some people write and playing the games on my own, if I like it's promise, even if I have to wait about 2 years for that...

Killzone Shadow Fall deserved 8.5 - 9 in my opnion, (based mostly on the multiplayer, didn't finish the Single Player campaign yet)

The Bitch is back! And better then ever! #BritneyReturns

SONY Bring them BACK for PS4 and VITA!

It had more levels than NSMB and the levels were longer. NSMBWii is a much better game than NSMB when you get past the mediocore and gimmicky multiplayer. NSMB just felt too safe. And it is absolutely ridiculous we had FOUR of these damn things. Hell even on the NES we had three games that had completly different designs(2 if you lived in Japan) and thats before we even jumped into the portable entries. IMHO i just think Ninty doesnt really have an interest in really pushing 2d Mario. It feels like they peaked at least artistically with World which is why we hadnt seen one in so long. Im not agreeing with that but with the sales they put up why would they try harder?

What?! I Thought the multiplayer was the best thing with NSMBWii! Me and my gf loved playing together. But I agree that four entries is enough, let's try something new now! And looking at the sales, that's what most people feel like. I think the NSMB-series was a great way to re-intreduce 2D Mario, but it's time to move on and try new things

Ya, not big surprise. Explains why Gamespot gave Tropical Freeze a 6
