Have any of you bought into a franchise without or having hardly played any of the games in that franchise?

For some reason, I've drawn a strong liking for Assassins Creed.  So far, Iown every AC game for the PS3 with the acception of VI, I have four out of the six Mega Bloks construction sets, I own the only female assassin action figure from Mcfarlane Toys, and I plan on buying more construction sets and the other titles in the series.  But when it comes to playing the games, I've only played about an hour of the first one.

Does anyone else finds themselves doing this?

Honestly I'm having a very difficult time understanding this.  You own multiple games in this franchise but have only played it for an hour?  Do you think maybe you are attracted to the art style?  Were you just hyped up on the trailer before the game came out and then didn't feel compelled to actually play the game?

Around the Network

No. If I'm a fan of a game it's because I've bought it, played it, and loved it.

In regards to Assassin's Creed from a logistical standpoint on a PlayStation system, I cannot stand those red "Greatest Hits" cases.  So when I hear that a PS3 game I want goes on Greatest Hits and is the price is right, I try to snatch it up in its original case before it becomes a rare find.  In regards to Assassin's Creed as a franchise, the premise of transferring your conscious from your current body in modern times to one in the past in some form of conscientious time travel interests me.  And both the stealth elements and the time periods the games are set in draw my attention, too.  But in my life, time is a factor.  Maybe I shouldn't buy until I know I have time to play.  But those games look so cool lined up on my shelves.

This makes you sound like more of a collector than a gamer.  Is this true with you for other franchises you're a fan of as well?
