Nah, not really. I can not think of an XBOne exclusive I can not play on my PC. Either XBOne + Wii U or PS4 + Wii U is the way to go. Getting the PS4 and XBOne is a waste of money at this point. In a couple years when they are cheaper and have some games then their may be a point

I agree in principal but time is my biggest limiting factor. I suspect I'll own all three consoles by the time the generation is over.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

a survey of 551 moms, asking what the moms would be spending, theres still the father to consider, and other siblings, buying gifts / gift certificates for their brothers and sisters.

At least I gave sources to back up an opinion. Your stuff is just your own thoughts  and guesses. Anyways, I think most children , or teens could save for them all if they wanted. Most kids do not get exactly what they want on Christmas, or Birthdays in the USA all the time. As gifts are suppossed to be surprises in most cases. I will only concede that a child with a lot of self control could save up for the consoles rather quickly if they really tried. Most kids have other hobbies besides gaming that cost money too.

I did buy all 3 but quickly found the Wiiu was not for me, so sold it.

Owning all 3 is the way to go in the perfect world. In my world where I'm married with a job and very limited time, it almost impossible for me to have all the time needed to enjoy every exclusives. If I spend all my free time playing videogames, my wife just cute my head off. Add to that that I also have a ps3 with many games in my backlog that I wish to play, I still haven't move on from last gen.

I also have the problem of being a completionist. Being a completionist gave me the time for new releases to comes over, as a result, have a lot of games on my backlog. Right now I'm playing dying light and Dragon ball xenoverse. For my surprise, xenoverse is the best DBZ to date, it has a lot of content. On ps4 alone,, I have on my backlog: shadow of mordor, assassin's creed 4, wolfenstein, shadow warrior. On ps3 there are much more on my backlog that I really want to play. As you can see, having another console it's not possible because it will become an item collector. If you have an extremely limited time, you just have to choose the console that better suit you even if that means not playing good games on another console. Some sacrifices have to be made.

I also like the logic that "it's only $1000 to get all three or roughly a 2 week paycheck", because clearly people don't have bills or other responsibilities.

Gold.

There's many reasons as of why most people don't go "all three!". In my case I do own a Wii U, but I haven't used it in a long time. I bought Xenoblade Chronicles back in April of last year and I haven't played it at all. I don't have enough time to play as much as I'd like.

Right now I have a sort of extensive backlog, mostly made up of JRPGS... Something which this Gen is lacking, no need for me to purchase a new console that has no games that appeal to me. There's tons of PS2, DS, Wii, and 360 games that are still on my wish list, that'll keep me busy for a long time... Until the newer consoles and games get cheaper as well!

Ehh....I will really have to wait until XBOX one or PS4 gives me a game to drop $400 for.....

I did it late for Ps3 and it was a major disappointment. The 360 was okay until I realized I am paying to play online and that is dumb.

I think 2 is enough for me right now. One to play Nintendo exclusives and the other to play third party games.

To hell with that. 1k plus whatever immediate games + accessories + online for ps4/xbone = way too much. I rather just spend the $600 or more on games for one console and be able to enjoy my other hobbies.

For a kid living at home with parents in US,UK or Japan, providing they actually work, even at minumum wage it would only take 3 1/2 weeks worth of pay to afford all three systems, 4 if said person was considered "in poverty", though chances are people in that situation aren't going to waste money buying ANY consoles.
Even if said kid is paying approximately half his earnings in rent/payments to parents, Within two months all three systems could be bought, along with games.

For everyone else, living alone/with partners/families, providing you are not living above your means (i.e. barely paying the rent because you wanted to live in a nicer area than you could afford, or because you just had to get that new phone on contract, or new car, etc, then saving $1000 should take less than 2 months easilly.
It's all about budgeting and money management, if you are bleeding money from multiple small payments each month, paying off credit card charges, loans and subscription charges and can barely get by, then you shouldn't be buying consoles to begin with, you should be focusing on paying off the debt.

If not in debt, then the only feasible reasons why "all three" is not an option financially, is if you are, a) piss poor at money management, or b) in poverty.
"Not an option preferentially" is an entirely different thing all together.

If you're that hard up that saving $1000 within a few weeks or months looks like an impossible mountain to climb, I strongly suggest you shut down your PC, call your internet provider and cancel your subscription, then consider selling the pc/laptop/phone/tablet you are using because these are clearly luxuries you cannot afford, and you are living beyond your means.

If that $1000 is impossible to climb because you have no employment, chances are you would be using your time better looking for employment rather than wasting it on a gaming forum.

Sure, it sounds harsh, but it's the truth. People in general are terrible with money management.
