Well, with this question I try to imagine people that are not gamers, and people that don't even touch games. Master Chief and Nathan Drake would be totally unknown to all of those people. I can't find a single reason to why my mother, for example, would have heard of them.
Pac Man on the other hand, you can see his face on t-shirts and all kinds of stuff. He is more of a mascot and has been around since, forever. He should be even more famous than Mario.
Other than those two, I imagine Tetris. A tetris-block? I don't know since there's no characters. But a tetris-block I think many people would recognize.
The Angry Birds-bird I think a lot of people would recognize as well. You find them as toys, on cups, t-shirts and what not.
Sonic? Hm, I don't know. Would non-gamers have heard of him? 10 years ago I can imagine he was a big mascot/icon to be found on all kinds of wares, but not today.
Minecraft is really big, no doubt. But once again I have a hard time imagining people outside of the gaming-community, people that don't play games to have heard of it.
If I would walk along the street and start asking people most would say they know of Tetris, Mario, Angry Birds and Pac Mac I believe.
