In this order:

1) Pac-man
2) Sonic
3) Pikachu

Link is probably #5 or 6. Characters like MC Steve are mainly known among younger people. You have to take in account the older folks too, and that puts Pac-man at the top. Sonic and Pikachu are also widely known among all age groups.
