To me Gen 5 at its best continued Gen 4, at its worst it set us back to Gen 2. It is no wonder that retro games favor Gen 4 so heavily and yet hardly ever see a Gen 5 throw back. Gen 6 is when polygon based graphics stopped being such eye sores.
Gen 6 > Gen 4 > Gen 3 > Gen 7 > Gen 5 > Gen 2 > Gen 1
Honestly Gen 8 is well on track to fly by Gen's 5, 2 and 1 already.
