Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Wow Xbox One games going Free-to-Play..... is this their counter to PS4

Sure, Xbox One already has three games that are free-to-play with Spark, Warframe and Killer Instinct.

But, some major titles are coming to Xbox One that are sure to spark some interest, I for one can't wait for World of Tanks.

This month alone we found out that four free-to-play titles are coming to Xbox One. Smite, World of Tanks, Neverwinter & Fable Legends.

Microsoft is also embracing cross-platform play, this is very good news for Xbox One owners since all these title seem to be exclusive to Xbox One (console exclusive).

Xbox one seem to have tap big time in the MOBA niche.

Its not a counter. Killer Instinct gave you the choice of buying characters you want, or buying the full game.  One character was free in rotation, and that was it.  It was very successful with millions of people downloading it so they decided it was a good model to continue that.  So no its not a counter, but rather used because it was successful.  Not everything has something to do with a war

I expect others will follow this model in the future.

Not really a counter when there are more F2P games on PS4 than X1

F2P is just a less risky model.  At the moment.

Look at todays announcement of Neverwinter. The game is coming out in month from now what is Microsoft doing that they are keeping their cards hidden when their release windows was so slim. I guess that one good thing of PS4 domination for Xbox One owners, Microsoft having to work extra hard to bring titles to it's consoles.

Um wasn't NN always going to be free to play?

And they had f2p games last gen, including World of Tanks. There are going to be more and more on both consoles.

well it just opens up another genre on XB1 and soon RTS will be on XB1 as well. MSFT is trying to leverage it's presence in the PC and online space to make XB1 better by offering more variety. Sounds like a good plan.

Neverwinter isnt a Microsoft game.  Its Perfect World.  Not sure if any of those are published by MSFT actually, though im not going to look it up.  But i certainy dont think this thread is thought out

RTS doesnt work well on console... we had some of the greatest RTS games ever on consoles, and they could never get big because the controlls are even worse than fps controlls on console.  i have starcraft 64, aoe2 for ps2,c&C on ps and warcraft 2 ps. all good game with wellmade ports, but well it just didnt works so great-  sames goes for mobas(the spawn of wc3 mods), smite could work well, we see, its not a classical moba and works fine with xbox controller.

Never claim the games were from Microsoft or published by them ... But seem like Microsoft want to Home of MOBA games on consoles.

Seem like Microsoft is changing strategy with Xbox One.

1st - Cross platform play with both Xbox 360 and PC.

2nd - Bringing MOBA and MMORPG to consoles.

3rd - More F2P games, which was made evident with change of Fables Legends to F2P.

4th - If this is combine with a permanent drop of Xbox Live to $40.00 this clear picture that Xbox one want to be online console destination.

The only thing missing is the annoucement of World of Warcraft on consoles.

Been thinking about selling my PS4. There just aren't that many games on it that interest me.

Xbox on the other hand have really been killing it. I am thoroughly impressed with Smite coming to XB1.
