For years the ps3 trailed behind the 360 for the total number of million sellers.  Not helped by the 1 year head start in the usa and 18 months in the EU. But despite all that sometime recently it overtook the 360 which has 226 million sellers.  But as you can see the ps3 has 229 and the gap will continue to grow.  For anyone wondering the Wii has around 150.

Lot of million sellers all around, guessing last gen had more million sellers than any prior by quite a bit.

Congrats, PS3! Of course, I would love for MS to release total SW sales, like the other 2 do, so we have something to compare our data to.

I honestly thought this was already a given. The PS3 was already strong in all markets, whereas 360 was doing lacklustre sales in Japan and behind in the UK somewhat. The Wii wasn't nearly as well supported, so it's software library didn't get the bigger names.

It was far from a given because the 360 had a big head start which resulted in it getting more games and helped it build a big lead early on. The fact it took ps3 until 2015 to pass it out shows it was anything but given. 

Yes, but it's at the end of the gen now.  PS3 has been getting game after game in Japan(and has been the only relatively healthy console in Japan for a good while now), and big games have been selling more or less in line with 360 in the West.  If it didn't have the most million sellers I'd be very surprised.
