is this op's review? i don't think so.

I'm pretty sure it is. This series of review threads on VGC confirm that.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

seems like a pretty solid review. If you added 3 more paragraphs it probably would have lasted longer than The Order too.

ahahahahah

Love this post

All this review shows is that it just isn't your type of game. The fact that you were annoyed that you couldn't skip the cutscenes says it all really.

I was entertained through out the whole game , and it's biggest flaw is that there isn't enough of the good stuff. But that doesn't make the game bad, it just hade much more potential.

That's why in my opinion a game like this just can't score that low, because there is nothing broken. No game breaking bugs, no terrible gameplay mechanics. Just a good enjoyable experience that sometimes might feel to much like a cinematic experience. But for me that actually felt like a interesting change of pace.

I'd rather have to many cutscenes but care about the story and characters, then running around and maybe not even finish a game because i just don't care how it ends. (Like with Assassin's Creed: Unity).

It wasn't even a "technical master piece," as it didn't run at 60fps, even at 900p with "filmic" black bars.

It isn't 900p, it's 1080p with black bars (1920 x 800, 21:9). And it's quite a technical achievement, it probably surpasses even Crysis 3 in visuals. There isn't a comparable game in graphics simply because they set up a new bar and did it pretty high.

How on earth did you platinum the game on hard in 6.5 hours? The average completionist time for the game is 10 hours and that's including all difficulties...

Either that was a speed run, or somebody screwed up his timing.

lol @ 10 hours. I cannot imagine what people are doing in this game that warrants a 10 hour play through. I explored and got all trophies but 3 and it took me 6 1/2 hours. The three I missed:

The one for all the audio collectibles. I missed one in an area by triggering a cut scene that took me out of that brothel.
One for one of the other collectibles. Same thing happened on the first level of the game I think. I walked down an alley and triggered a cut scene. Turns out the newspaper or whatever was on a barrel right before you trigger the scene.

And the one for incinerating people. Just didn't use the thermite rifle much. Awesome concept, boring as fuck to use imho.

That's the average time, 6.5 hours is less than the time for just completing the story.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

If you need to tell yourself this "just isnt my type of game", then go ahead. Unskippable cut scenes are probably my #1 pet peeve in gaming. They affect replay value, achievement/trophy hunting, etc. Max Payne 3 is another game where if you wanna replay it you have to sit through every cut scene again until the game stops loading, and I loved the gunplay and gameplay in MP3. It has nothing to do with "this type of game" :)

Another difference with this game is the story is garbage. So that makes not being able to skip some scenes even worse.

The game can score low when it emphasizes story over gameplay but fails in both areas. It has at least one terrible game feature, the AI. And lots of lesser offenses that add up.

You can speed through the game in like 5 1/2 hours or less judging by the first YT play through. That guy didnt even do a pure speed run.

6 1/2 is plenty of time.

Of course I was paying attention to the story. There's just nothing there.

You talk about black water and where does it come from , it comes from the grail   It's explained  and you see how it works when the Marquess is knighted ,

obviously there is tension even then it's mostly down to one old man set in his ways , and it's due to the fact that you are historically sworn to combat were creatures , but you are now caught in the middle of competing factions you have on one hand the rebels  and what seems to be some sort of collussion with the werewolves then theres the India company who are your benefactors but seem to have there own secret agenda and thirdly there is the anarchists who are at odds with the company and are watching the order due to the Companies ties there but are also keeping tabs on the rebels and there sudden rise believing some power is behind them.

Amongst all that you are trying to do your job and  I don't see fighting rebels when attacked constitutes shooting the shit out of innocents.

"comes from the grail"

Wow, what an explanation. And no, you don't see how it works. You see him drink some and then fill his vial with his own blood. None of that is any sort of explanation on its origins or really anything about it.

Shooting actual guards on the airship constitutes shooting the shit out of innocents. Especially when Galahad apparently has a perfectly good and quick method for distinguishing real and fake guards.

Obviously most people have heard of King Arthur and the Knights of the round table and the quest for the holy grail and it's powers , it's one of literatures most widely known legends  , but then again you called him Sir Arthur , its a bit like having a game where some one finds the fountain of youth and complaining because they didn't give you a detailed analysis of how it works .
Obviously the order has been using  blackwater for centuries and it would look out of place for to suddenly do a detailed  explaination , you are told early on that it grants you healing and long life but not immortality and since it goes back to Arthurs day it's most likely all they know.

About the airship battles and shooting guards it is most likely that very point that  sees you doing the stealth  missions after you identify the rebels  you are then attacked enmass by more rebels and the real guards seem to conveniently dissapear so it's pretty hard to kill them .

I'm not arguing with you about it's faults it has many including those dissapearing guards but you stance on the story comes across as being pedantic ,if you said the story isn't my cup of tea i could understand, but most off your arguements regarding story could be laid at the door of just about every game like uncharted , tomb raider etc.

PS. sorry about the Sir Arthur dig couldn't help myself  ,still it seems this will simply end with us disagreeing about the merits of the story , at least we can agree that the rest needs improvement if they ever make a sequel.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

This is pretty much my exact thoughts after playing it.

Gameplay: 4, seriously? Is it unresponsive, broken, does it have annoying camera or is the button placement stupid, if not it should be atleast 7.

And why would you even want to skip the cutscenes on your first playthrough, I used to do that as a kid because I couldn't understand English. :D No wonder you didn't enjoy the story if you just tried to escape it.

I think your story scale is also a little bit off, Tekken 6 and Ninja Gaiden 2 are 4s.

Same with replayability: 0 ( U kidding me!) even Big Rigs has replayability of atleast 1 and it doesn't have collectibles or trophies.

All in all you should give it atleast 6 overall.
