Forums - PC Discussion - Steam passes 125 million active users!

I'll be asking people to move away from the tired old console vs PC argument and keep on topic here.

OT: The rate of growth is quite impressive if they were at 75 million active users about a year ago!

Means nothing with out context aka whats the avergae $ spend on by those +100 million users.

ex - my steam iv had for years and only got one game from there, here and there to play and to do so i must log on. So me being one of those users is really telling of nothing good or great.

Unfortunately, the same holds true for the opposite end of the spectrum.  Those who absorb vast quantities of games via steam.  What you're referring to represents one end of the spectrum.  My friend Nate, would represent the other, steam level 62, owns 1527 steam titles and 1166 pieces of DLC.

Ahh the whales, the life blood of the industry.  They are id say the smalles faction but their spending is on the crazy side.

Thats why i say the 100 million users is quite irrelevent.

Sorry the world doesn't fit into your neat black and white categorizations.  There's a hell of alot of room between someone who has 1 game, and someone who has 1527 games.  The 125 million users, is quite relevant, because they've been on steam in the past 30 days.  Beyond that, you really have as little information as we do, regarding the average breakdowns.  So, I could just as easily say the vast majority of that 125 million, buy tons of games.  Besides, why would you just come in and downplay Steams obvious success?  Is there really any point to that?

I blame Civ 5 (over 500 hours played).  I bet I'd have over 1000 hours on Civ3 but I only have 99 hours right now considering I had a non steam version of Civ3 for a long time.

I wonder how many games he owns that he never played.  I've only played about 35% of my Steam games.

Casue it just pr and i see through it as iv been involved in such foolishness.  If its success was truley get youd recive more information gloting and showing it of, an average amount of games purchesed by those 125 million or average spending.  Anything of actual substance to show its worth.  But they dont casue this is mostly a fluff peace.

Steam has auto login it does it not ?

Bundle sites probably have propelled steam growth
Network Effect due to existing steam users + lowcost to entry (DAD's PC)
