Forums - PC Discussion - Steam passes 125 million active users!

First of all ...What is an active user?

For Steam an active user is somebody who logged on steam the last 30 days (so you who would say I have three steam accounts but did not go online for years doesn't count)...

Press release:

GDC 2015 will mark the 13th anniversary of Valve's first public announcement of Steam, which has since become the leading platform for PC, Mac, and Linux games and software.

In the last year, Steam added new services and features - including In-Home Streaming, Broadcasting, Music, and user created stores - as it grew to over 125 million active accounts worldwide.

Steam now offers 4500 games, with 400 million pieces of user-generated content contributed by members of the Steam Community.

On january 2014 they passed 75 million.....Last september they hit 100 million...Steam keeps on growing.

HAHAHAHAHA Told you guys the is no stopping the master race xD .
Thats why so many Japan style games are coming to it latly such as MGS and JRPG's etc cos even if jst 5% of that market showed interest in your game thats still huge sales .

And With it becoming easier and cheaper to buy/build PC's that can outperform all 3 next gen consoles and with Console/PC Hybrids coming i expect this market to grow much much bigger, Welcome to the future people.

The numbers don't say much because there are many mmo-style games tha are free and most people play them on PC/Steam (for example Marvel Heroes, Rift etc) so many of them haven't spend a single cent on other games. PC will never be the best or biggest platform as long as it's so easy to pirate everything. That's why Pc gets all the ports and most of the new games have problems. Also, no it's not cheaper at all. In the long run consoles are cheaper, because you buy one for 5-7 years and the prices of the games fall all the time (not steam sales like but it's still better).Consoles were, are and will be the future. And PC doesn't get all the exclusives so there's that as well (it's the biggest deal breaker for me).
