I hate a genre therefore it's toxic.

It detracts from that which defines the medium, interactivity, therefore it's toxic.

And it's not like I'm the only one with this opinion: http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/the-order-1886

It might no have enough gameplay, but what it has is good, and it also has a good story and incredible atmosphere too. Its far from perfect but its a good game that gets many things right, and a few things wrong.

Diversity is a good thing to have. Not everyone likes to play Mario and Zelda.

Diversity is a good thing, I agree. Which is why the cinematic trend is a negative in my opinion; it homogenizes gaming and cinema, and it homogenizes genres within gaming.

It isn't a trend. So far I would say that only 3 games have been released which are cinematic at the level of movies. That isn't a trend at all, and it likely would never be because the best-selling one of these has sold 3 million units which isn't nearly as much as mainstraem games which are less cinematic.

Also, maybe you don't like it, and I would dislike it too if it happened more often, but when once in a while it happens and its done in a very good way I think its actually good. We've had too many "fast-paced shooters" which play very similarly while not all of them being good at what they do.

The degree we see in The Order isn't common, true, but modern gaming has replaced a lot of what used to be gameplay in days past with cutscenes  interspersed with QTEs.

I'd just rather it didn't become more cinematic than it is now.

@jlmurph2; Thank you man.

I truly make a honest mistake with the name. It was a long time i last played Gears.

All in good fun

@curl-6:
Man please, stop The hating!
All The most modern games i know have some level of cinematic approach in it. Its not a new thing on the games ok. All the devs this days when try to make more detailed stories use that recurse. The Order put that on a higher level thats all.
If you don't like The game just don't play it ok.

I guess not many argue against diversity but actual fun to play games. A game is not automatically good because of its genre. Of course fun and quality is totally subjective, though.

Cliff blinksi is quite overrated in gaming, i think he takes number 1 spot now. Hes annoying, he was also for xbox 1 drm

“The only way to convince executives to release the money to greenlight productions is to do movie-like productions that impress them. That’s honestly why this stuff happens.”

This truly terrifies me but it does make the cinematic game trend we are seeing make more sense. I posit this is why we don't see as much AA, A, B, stuff making it to shelves now. Those kinds of games don't impress executives.

I also say I have to agree with his priorities and getting more bang out of your buck by making less expensive games. Though with cinematic games still making money hand over fist in today's climate I can see why other larger studios and publishers who can afford it take that risk.

For every game like this you have 100 that are not cinematic, your complaining makes no sense, you dont like it dont buy them cause other people enjoys them and they will not end just because a couple find them toxic.

If it grows though, it could spread to games that I do like and don't want to become more cinematic.

I'm not saying such games should be eradicated, just that to protect diversity, the contagious nature of this trend should be curtailed.

In my humble opinion, of course.

XD When people think Cliff is still relevant LOL
