Forums - Gaming Discussion - An 1 world war FPS could bring a lot of new cool and brutal elements to Story and MP.

I've also been thinking a long time about a WW1 game.
It should be a very story driven game that captures the horror of living in a drowned trench.
The only thing nowadays publishers is stopping this from happening is that they can't add cool gadgets to it for the regular gamer. When you watch an FPS now it's basically all (science)-fiction kinda stuff. I'm afraid most of the people can't go back to the basics.

Yeah, a story driven WW1 version of TLOU would actually be awesome as well. WW1 is ignored heavily, and everytime i watch a documentary or a WW1 movie, i just feel that all this could be an awesome Story driven game, if they manage to capture the horror.

I was thinking about RTS, RPG FPS Team vs Team online game. Which basically is as real as you can get it.
The commander runs the RTS mode, the footsoldiers ( players ) follows order in FPS mode. And the RPG is quite obvious.
And it's players vs players, and the best soldiers and the best commander will win based on strategies and how well these strategies was executed by soldiers.

The next step of RTSRPGFPS games lol. it can be boring for the RTS guy though, if not he loves planning strategies and all that.

Well that's getting complicated :p but if done properly I can see it work

I just need to pull all the ideas i can, that can work and try puzzle it together, and make some sort of an video and get the idea out there! i know how to create games, but alone? this will take me 5 years if i want it to be high quality lol.

The game could have a Story driven mode, like TLOU and so on, maybe a bit of an mix with fallout.
And the online can be a RTS RPP FPS mode. It's like the best of both world lol

Do not mix reality with FPS war games. They have nothing to do with real wars and probably never will. FPS are fantasy products.

Something like a black ops ww1 would be cool, though not historically correct obviously. But there are very interesting elements to be used. The first tanks, german zeppelings, gas attacks etc.

Crape weapons.

old skool

There was supposed to be a 360/PS3 game called To End All Wars that was a WWI fps. Edge did a write up on it a few years ago, but it never materialized.

As some have mentioned, there aren't any of these games as WWI isn't on the history channel every two minutes and there aren't a million WWI movies. I think the last one was Flyboys.

There is also the persisting idea that all of WWI was the Western Front or dogfighting. Read about the Battle of Caporetto, for example, and tell me this couldn't be an amazing setting for a game. This is a conflict that could work very well for a video game, but instead we will get 50 variations on COD and Halo.

What?  FPS is an genre which ain't tied down exclusively to fantasy.

FPS is just the view.

as third person is an view.

Basically it's just the physical setting of the game, wether the story is fantasy or not, got nothing to do with first person view or third person view.

A game can be designed around reality just as much as fantasy as much as it want, despite what view mode it is.

and yes, a WW1 game can be a fictional story created on historical events while maintaining the historical settings and background. if that was what you referred to.  but still. FPS isn't exclusively forced to be all fantasy, since it's just the view mode.

Yeah, the game can be fictional based on historic events. It can even be alternative story based on the historical events that happen in the WW1.  One of the missions, as a inside spy. we might actualy infliltrating the same platoon that hitler was in, even though we don't recognize his regulare mustache lol

There is a lot of cool things that can be done with WW1, if it's fictional or not, as long as the fiction matches the historical setting. A lot of cool things was invented during the WW1 as tanks and such, so there is a lot of cool stuff that can be done.

It can even be a story driven game like TLOU as well and still contain a lot of cool stuff. What is cooler then infiltrating a trench?  and experience a heated moment with canon fire, tanks driving over the trenches and fighting an enemy in a cloud of gas?
