Forums - Sony Discussion - What Sales does The Order Need to Earn a Sequel?..or Everyone has at Least One The Order Thread in them.

Historically, at least my impression is that it's an historical axiom, games that meta below 70 struggle to achieve decent sales. It seems to be a firm conclusion now that The Order will not rise to 70+ on Metacritic. Say what you will about whether metacritic is any good at reflecting a games quality, it does seem to be that when a game gets fairly low scores it will also get fairly low sales.

The odd thing about The Order is that some reviews that hope for a sequel score The Order below 7/10. This suggests that these reviewers think the game is OK at best, but there are things they really like and they hope an actually good game will be produced in this alternate reality setting. If The Order plays to type as a <70 metascore game and achieves fairly lowly sales,m the chances of a sequel are remote.

But what is the sales threshold for this game that would give Sony enough reason to invest in a sequel? 1 million? 2 million? 3 million? more than that?

I think if The Order sold 2 million a sequel would be almost guaranteed. However I don't think this game has a shit show of getting that many sales. With bundling it can crawl its way to 1 million. But is 1 million enough to earn that (hopefully more appealing) sequel that many reviewers seem to want?

PS4's best selling sub 70 game is Knack (according to VGC, so there might be a bit of inaccuracy there), and that got a lot of bundles. I might be mistaken but I think no one is expecting that game to get a sequel. I'm struggling to find any >70 games on PS3 that have 1 million+ against their name on VGC. I've tracked down a Need for Speed game that came close to 2 million with a meta below 70, but that's all I've found. So getting past that psychological milestone of 1 million is extremely difficult and rare for <70 games.

What do you ratet the chances of The Order's sales and of getting a sequel?

My new prediction is ~700K LTD (1 million if there is bundling at some point in the USA). Chances of a sequel 10%.

Hmm, I wonder if sales will = a sequel cause I would think that considering how much hate was spread and how much negativity it had, even if it sold 2 million+, if the developers are willing to make a sequel. But if they are, I would say 1 million + should do it

For me, it depends on how it is received by the gaming community. Should they find reviewers opinions in the wrong direction and turn out to love the game, with great sales, chances are a sequel will happen. If not, then Ready At Dawn will shift their focus elsewhere. Either way, for their first console game effort, no matter what anyone says, I commended them for attempting an ambitious project.

If a sequel is made, I hope Ready at Dawn takes the criticism of the original to heart and improve on the good things about the game and ditch the obvious negatives about the game. Implement a co-op(come on, the game is screaming for co-op via splitscreen at the very least, I guess the black bars prohibited this), give us an option for full screen aspect ratio, have a friggin online competitive mode etc. The universe they have built has great potential, I hope it is fully realized in the sequel(if it happens). I will have the game this weekend, will give it a play through on the hardest difficulty.

Good point. I think it can get a pseudo-sequel in the sense that the tech will be used for another game. They can go the Uncharted 2 route - add MP and other modes.

Nah, gotta say. This looks like one of those games that kills the studio. Saw it a couple times last gen with lackluster PS3 games. RIP Ready at Dawn

I sure hope that doesn't happen. I think Ready At Dawn should be given a second chance. Hopefully, how gamers see it differ from reviewers.

Theolnly reason I say that is this is th eonly game they have put out in the last 4 years. And they have no IPs to fall back on.

If they die because of this game, will be solely their fault.

Doing quicktime event game with aspect ratio of movies shows they had their heads up their asses.

I do think some people there is really talented, and if a new the order were to be made and improved upon, I could see becoming a very good sequel.

I think in terms of sales, will achieve 1 million lifetime, it has the upside of being early in console cycle.

If were to get a good sequel tho, sales of this could rise when price gets cut and sequel arrives, making 2 million a possibility.

its a chicken egg argument as most games that get this much marketing don't score below 70 meta. And besides the order is an entirely different nut to crack. It got crushed in reviews for not being traditional where as it may find an audience with people who play games on occasion, like movies and think its a cool concept.
