Forums - Gaming Discussion - This generation has sucked so far

I'm been very happy with all my Wii U purchases thus far ( I do wish Nintendo's output was quicker but what can I do). As for the other two, I don't own them right now so I can't be disappointed in their offering. I usually prefer waiting until a console has a good number of games I know I'll enjoy before buying it. It's the best way to avoid being "disappointed".

True.

But what surprises me are the lack of killer apps. Even though the 360 was meh its first year it at least had Gears of War, Dead Rising, Saint's Row, Oblivion, and Big Bumpin' (lol jk). All the supposed killer apps of this gen have been mega underwhelming. Titanfall had potential (as well as The Order) but it should've been Microsoft who published it.

It surprises me how popular the Xbox One and PS4 are considering that there aren't many great games on the system. Bloodborne looks to be a saving grace but that's not enough.

This gen can be summed up as:

- Broken games (Halo: MCC, Assassin's Creed, The Crew, Driveclub). Ridiculous. No excuses for all this crap!

- EXTREMELY underwhelming overhyped games (Watch Dogs, Destiny, COD: AW). Destiny, Watch Dogs, etc. etc. should've been mega hits but instead they are some of the best 7/10 games around

- Too many dang remasters. Enough! It works OK for something like Halo because a) the games are old b) It's like Mario All-Stars but we don't need every flippin game remastered! The Last of Us should've just been a PS4 only title anyway. There are more remasters than actual new installments of franchises

- Nintendo has been a huge disappointment. We finally get an HD Nintendo console and what do they do? Give us a 3DS sequel (3D World), and give us another weird looking Zelda game instead of a cool ass looking Zelda game like the E3 2011 demo.

- Games that had a lot of potential but just seem incomplete. On one spectrum you have The Order, which is single player only but only has 5-8 hours of gameplay (u wot m8?), and on the other side of the spectrum you have Titanfall which is multiplayer only but very barebones (only a few game modes and such)

- No backward compatibility. Instead they want to resale us the older games or get their cloud service instead. Lame! I want to get rid of my PS3 but can't.

Anyone else agree? There are no differences between the PS4 and Xbox One now. Even Sony is charging for online.

 I basicaly agree.
The only candle in this darkness is Nintendo but their light is not really bright at all.

Btw Order has roughly 6h of gameplay yes but 1/3 of that is cutscenes you cannot skip according to eurogamer. So its basically a 4h game.

And with all the JRPGS coming to Steam  like Tales of Zestiria showing up in the steam database  I kinda worry if my PS4 purchase was worth it.  I usually buy Sony systems for japanese games primarily and for the Sony games secondarily.

I also dont really have any interest in the XBO because basically all games get portet to PC. Only MCC and Sunset Overdrive are not on PC but rumors say they will show up.

On the one hand you are right, on the other hand you are not right.
You are right that we are getting too much HD Remakes, that we are getting a lot broken games and that Nintendo has disappointed us with the Wii U in this generation but I think you shouldn't judge games because of the reviews. Driveclub and Halo: Masterchief Collection are awesome games after all these updates (I know, I know... AFTER ALL THESE UPDATES). Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is finally another fantastic Call of Duty since Call of Duty Black Ops 2. You shouldn't cry... The time has changed the industrie. DEAL WITH IT!

Its not sucked for me being a Wii U owner, I have amassed very good library of games indeed. 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Smash, Mk8, W101, Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3 and company have been well worth the admission price.

The 8th gen consoles could have waited until 2018 to release, the PS360 are capable enough to last a long time. The only console that needed a successor was the Wii, and even that system could have lasted a couple more years if Nintendo didn't have abandoned it so soon.

I agree with you about Nintendo abandoning Wii too soon, but you're crazy if you think Sony/MS should have waited until 2018 to release new consoles.

1st of all show me how PC has any better games? Why not including PC there too instead blaming consoles all the time.

Is he talking about PC? When people talk about generations, its usually about consoles.  And Blizzard has Overwatch coming which looks amazing

its a shooter with cartoony graphics it doesnt look amazing to me. And yes thats my actuall problem with people not talking about PC when it comes to 8-Gen disspointement while talking about PC as a competitor to 8-Gen Consoles on the other hand.

Just wanted that to point out.

Theres been a ton of good releases for the first 15months, more so then probably any consoles before. Lets not ignore that. Problem is that there are also more disappointments (broken at launch/over hyped games), a lack of stand out gems and lack of innovation/games pushing the boundary.

Complaining about remasters is pointless. For every remaster there is another handful of new games, they're not taking anything away from the industry.

I've enjoyed it. Loved Sunset Overdrivs, Forza Horizon 2, Super Mario 3D World, DK TF, and Infamous SS. Can't wait for XCX, Persona 5, and a few others. Still need to get Bayonetta 2 though.

Nobody here was talking about PC. Not sure why you tried deflecting it to that when it was clearly  not the subject.

PS:  Cartoony doesnt mean bad.  That is just something you dont prefer.

I'm pleased with my Wii U so far. There's not a major abundance of games, but I have about 15-16 amazing titles right now which is more than enough for me, and many more to come.
My 3DS has had some great titles, though a good few of the games I have are remakes, but they still have been putting out some quality titles.

I don't own the other 2 consoles, though I do own a 360. I'm thinking the major problem for me with upgrading would be there are not enough console exclusives yet. The majority of the big titles I can still get on my 360, I'm not really fond of buying a new console just for a graphical upgrade of a game.
Though I know in the next year or two the 360/PS3 will soon not get the ports, but until then that would be my issue with upgrading.
