And Victoria and Hearts of Iron while you're at it

@OP: any special considerations upon your desired hardware (preferred brand or producer, SSD or Blu-Ray drive, tower size, watercooling, extra silent parts...)?

To what resolution ?

You thinking about 1440p ?

If so then an R9 280X with an i5 4690K will do just fine for Civ: BE ...

I was thinking of buying a 4K TV and connecting my rig to it.

With a $1000 you can build one hell of a machine.
$600 on CPU/GPU
$120 on MOBO
$80 on Ram
$80 on Case
$70 on HDD
$20 on CD drive

But if I were you I'd maybe get a cheaper CPU or GPU and spend $120 on a 250GB SSD.

Or spend less on a GPU and get something like the GTX 960 that just came out and spend extra on the MOBO.  Then in a year or two you can get another GTX 960 and run in SLI.

That's kinda what I was thinking... maybe save some money on the GPU and stuff and buy it later if I decide to switch to PC gaming from consoles...

I tried CK2 some time ago and we just didn't click, but I plan to give it a second chnace some day. I heard Europa Universalis was really complicated? Is that true?

Will check out Victoria. Hearts of Iron I really didn't like.

I've lost touch with PC tech a long time ago, so I can't really make this kind of decisions - that's why I'm asking about it here. The only thing I can say is that I don't mind noise that much and I don't need ANY disc drive.

I hope your not going to be expecting 4K@60FPS with a $1000 USD budget ...

You'd have to get 2 R9 290X's (which will cost around 650-700 if your living in America)  to be able to expect that type of performance in Civ: BE ...

Um... why would I need 60 FPS in turn-based strategy games? For Christ's sake I'm a console gamer, I'm used to playing shooters at 30 FPS... I'm perfectly fine with 1080p 30 FPS on highest settings, but I want the PC to still perform reasonably 5 or more years from now, too. In other words, I want to sink that much money in it just because I don't want to have to worry about HW again for as long as possible.

Both CK2 and EU are very complicated but once you get into it, with the new updates, it's worth it. Also if you like Game of thrones, their is a GOT fantastic mod for CK2.

A couple of quick questions. Is form factor an issue and will you be looking to overclock at all?

For a better experience ?

Anyways just roll with a GTX 970 or an R9 290X for your GPU if you fear obsolescence that much ...
