Forums - Sales Discussion - New Nintendo 3ds XL... selling better than expected?

Funny thing... after I purchased my NN3DS XL... I've been asking retailers if they have ANY in stock... (including regular ones). So far I've been to 5 Gamestops, 2 Best Buys, 1 Target, and Nintendo World... ALL SOLD OUT. Gamestop even said they are not expecting another shipment until mid March.

I know 9 stores is a small sample in a much boarder world, but I am really surprised I can't find one anywhere. I am not saying personal experience reflects actuality, but it's got to mean something.

Anybody else having this experience?

It's also pretty much sold out where I live, but I doubt it will sell better than expected in the long run.
It seems like a nice start though.

Same with the ebgames near me!

One version seems to be sold out at select stores in the downtown area the day of. They might have shipped some down from the other stores.

Same thing with the Gamestop I go to (which is in a mall). It sold out very quickly along with Monster Hunter 4. In fact, I ended up getting the last copy of Majora's Mask 3D that was available in that store a couple days ago.

In the USA possibly yes. But in the UK it only gave 3DS a 57% boost, which is not much for a hardware refresh in the grand scheme of things. And if that lead to a selling out in the UK then that would mean undersupply, which would probably mean selling better than expected, but in this case better than expected would not necessarily mean selling very well in an absolute sense.

I'm sure Nintendo through it supplied the USA adequately for projected demand. As USA is a reasonably strong country for 3DS I would think the supply into the USA would be good enough that a nation-wide sell out means very good sales.

Yesterday, I checked the internet. All models sold out at all retailers, in stores and online, except the black model at Toys R Us.

I stopped believing Nintendo products being sold out mean anything other than short supply rather than strong demand.

Or just Nintendo not stocking enough as usual

I thought the 57% increase was for total hardware not just 3DS
