Forums - PC Discussion - Konami PC sales on the rise

According to Konami their PC sales have increased putting it past the XB1 to (8% increase from 2%)10% of Konami's market.

Below a source from PCGamer:

We don't normally talk about "consolidated results for the nine months ended December 13, 2014" around these parts, but once in awhile we run across something legitimately interesting buried amongst all the corporate bafflegab. Such as, for instance, this very significant uptick in PC sales of Konami games over the past year, which could, if we're lucky, have serious (and positive) consequences in the future.

The PC accounted for just two percent of unit sales through the first three quarters of FY2014, according to the report, putting it on par with the thoroughly obsolete PlayStation 2. Over the same period in FY2015, however, the figure bounced to ten percent, still far from a dominant position but a five-fold increase nonetheless. In the same report, Konami notes "solid PC download sales of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for Steam."

That's big news, because as Overclock3D pointed out, it's powerful evidence of the viability of the PC as a platform for Konami titles. This isn't an internet petition or anecdotes on a forum; these are hard, irrefutable numbers. And while the PlayStation 3 and 4 still collectively account for more than half of Konami sales, the PC isn't that far behind, especially when you consider that the PS3, which is still easily number one, is an old console, on the way out.

Consider this: Silent Hills is so far listed as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, but the PS4 accounted for only 20 percent of Konami unit sales over the first three quarters of this year. Releasing a PC version would broaden the potential market dramatically, without having to downgrade the game in order to make it run on older tech. And with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain already confirmed for PC, I'm willing to bet we'll see the same with Silent Hills, and a lot more Konami releases in the future.

News seems pretty bright for PC gamers with the increase, hopefully Konami will publish more of their games to PC and maybe some older ones too, either is just as good for the market willing to buy good titles from them.

And I'd hope the market grows overall, it's not reached a point where it's viable and can't really be ignored anymore.

Yep, the good old PC is the platform of the past, present and future. More and more Japanese games getting ports or simultaneous releases.

In a few years only Nintendo games will be exclusively on their own systems. The rest will be on PC and the console wars will be a thing of the past.

Am I alone in wanting Konami to die?

I think you'll be waiting a very long time for that...

Probably true but it will happen and when it does it will be a good thing because it means we've all won and business has had to follow the more open trend.

Probably because their games are actually going to the PC.

I can see Microsoft going for it sooner rather than later. Not Sony though. PlayStation is becoming essential to them, add that to the fact that they just sold their PC oriented section and it really does look like they are in console for the long haul.

So essentially you're saying they will become an exact duplicate of Nintendo, complete with the money and time to sustain the one console?, are you really sure about that given that Nintendo has been in the game and been around longer than even your folks?.

Sony's had to shed off weight it couldn't sustain which onto itself is bad since it means it couldn't stave off other rivals from those other markets and had to withdraw, like how you'd imagine MS withdrawing first, I would imagine Sony doing the same shortly after, if it;s failed to compete against the markets it once held and was renowned for then I can't quite frankly see it lasting as long as Nintnendo who's been around 10 years and brought gaming from the crash and still survived being console only, I just can't see Sony doing what Nintendo do, especially with the lack of long term money, PS4 sales doesn't equate to Sony somehow outlasting everyone for the next 200 years, they will be long gone before 100 with the way the markets are quick to shift.

Yep and I bet Im not alone in wanting you to die =P

Seriously though why?? How can you possibly want Konami of all companies to die??

I don't think this really means PC is gonna be a huge market for Konami, more like Metal Gear Solid is simply a huge franchise and will sell well regardless of what platform it's on.
