Also, Measles killed 145,700 people in 2013 alone, or about 400 per day.

That is, however, a 75% decrease from 2000... thanks to, you guessed it, vaccination.

http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs286/en/

That's how many children per thousand are diagnosed with autism. As you can see, there's a more than 200% increase since 2000. Now I don't know why that is, but it has to be something.

Yeah doctors are getting better at diagnosing it.

Laws against shouting Bomb, or Fire in a theater, are basically the same.  Your right to free speech, is overruled by the fact that you're causing panic and an entirely unsafe situation.  Same thing here, by not vaccinating, you are creating an unsafe/harmful atmosphere for folks who cannot be vaccinated (children under the age of 1, I think, and those who have immuno deficiencies).

Well said.

Children under 1 get 23 sometimes more doeses of vacines, at least here in the USA.  There millions more kids allergic to nuts, seeds, eggs and ton of other foods.  Even if you ate it and walked by and breathed on them they can have a reaction. Should we ban all public eating? There at way way more risk then the extremly extremly small amount that can't be vacinated.  Also quick story.  A family member of mine was forced to get a flu vacine that works in Health care after being threaten with her job of 15 years.  Even though she was allergic to ingredients in the vacine and let the DR. know.  She gave in and had a masive reaction and was hospitalized. Imagine that was a infant. They wouldn't have made it to the ER.  If DR. S are going to force immunization to someone that has allergies to ingredients do you think they even look at that? No.  I had Major Back surgry and I brought a limitation of the surgry up that my DR. Had no clue about even thought he's preformed 1000's of these before.  They don't know everything, they try don't get me wrong but every complacations of every med and every vacine and surgry, ect..that would be insane.  You here the list of 1 med they list on TV. It's a mile long.  There's a reason you don't see vacine ones.

Don't be an imbecile, children with allergies have medication for just such emergencies (just like adults with allergies).  And lots of other children are restricted with what they can bring to school, for exactly those allergies (depends on the school, and what the school system has setup for protection).

Doctors actually ask you about allergies prior to giving you anything, having been to the doctors, I know what they ask you before prescribing anything. Having worked in the medical field, and having 2 family members in the field, I know the kinds of questions they're required to ask.  And if you didn't sue their asses off, that's on you, it's called Medical Malpractice, and is highly actionable. So, you either had a terrible doctor, or, you're lying.

Beyond that, 'someone might have a reaction', isn't an excuse for causing outbreaks of diseases and viruses we've nearly wiped out in the US (especially ones that kill).  We know what happens when those viruses get out.  Now, people with allergies aren't required to get vaccines, it's actually written on the CDC's page. It's only 'recommended' that healthcare workers get the Flu Vaccine, it isn't a law.  Your family member didn't have to get vaccinated, as she falls under the list of people who 'Shouldn't get vaccinated' (See below).  Now, she was within her right to refuse, and she could not have been fired because it's simply not within her control.  She should've addressed that to her employer, followed by the threat of litigation, should the employer have fired her.  In fact, if she did notify the Doctor, and her employer that she was allergic and they did it anyway, that's medical malpractice, and both the employer and doctor should be sued.

It sucks she had to go through that, unnecessarily, but she's covered by law.  Had she known her rights a tad more, she could've avoided this and legal action should've been taken afterwards.

People who can't get the flu shot:

  • Children younger than 6 months are too young to get a flu shot
  • People with severe, life-threatening allergies to flu vaccine or any ingredient in the vaccine. This might include gelatin, antibiotics, or other ingredients. See Special Considerations Regarding Egg Allergy for more information about egg allergies and flu vaccine.

Note: There are certain flu shots that have different age indications. For example people younger than 65 years of age should not get the high-dose flu shot and people who are younger than 18 years old or older than 64 years old should not get theintradermal flu shot.

w8 what? since when are children restricted if some kid is allergic?

Seriously?  You've never seen that?  I have several friends w/ children who were restricted from being certain allergens to school (lunches from home, for example), if one of their classmates had a severe allergy to something (like nuts, for example).  May only be for younger institutions though, or it could just be they're a bit tighter here in Vermont (which wouldn't surprise me in the slightest).  May not be a countrywide thing, or it could be school to school.  Not entirely sure because I don't have kids, and have never dealt with it first hand.

May just be a school specific thing, actually, after doing a bit of poking around.  Administrations are given leeway to setup allergy protection measures, some schools mandate that you're not allowed to bring certain things into the classroom of a kid with that kind of allergy.  So, it appears that it's mainly up to the school.  There is talk of a 'nut ban' at schools, but it appears that even the parents of children w/ nut allergies, generally don't agree with the concept.

In Croatia, children are forbidden to bring any nut based food when celebrating birthdays. As well as no home-made cakes or cookies.

Only factory packaged goods.

And of course that every teacher/caretaker has a list of allergies, so that they can react accordingly in some other extreme cases (allergies to fish or shellfish, milk, fabrics etc...)

It is a small sacrifice to the completely healthy ones, so nobody sane would ever complain about it.

Indeed, my desire to have some kind of nut, has never been high enough to think it's worth someones life over.  If I really want it that bad, I can have it when I get home.  Or, at least outside of a high-risk area such as schools, or a pediatric facility.

im okay with protecting allergic kids, but those parents should do their part and go to a Genetic counseling before having kids.

As part of my job, I help run camps for kids with autism, and we have to check everyone's lunches to make sure nobody brought anything containing nuts.

Similarly, if any of the kids has an allergy to something like shellfish, those foods are banned as well.

The protection of others has to come first.

Herd immunity is the mechanism by which epidemics are prevented, but it only works if a certain percentage of the population or higher is immune. When somebody doesn't vaccinate, they are lowering the population's overall immunity, and when it falls below a certain point, outbreaks occur.

Herd Immunity?  Please make an excuse for this where 100% were vaccinated with measles vacine and still over 50% got measles.  http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00000359.htm?mobile=nocontent

Iam just showing others that don't know why some don't vacinate or partial vacinate reasons why and a differnt point of view.  We can go back and forth tell the end of days on both of our reasoning and Again this is about forcing people to get vacines without a choice not about banning vacines and Again ZERO MEASEALES DEATHS IN USA IN THE LAST 10 YEARS.  Yes partialy due to vacines but also cleaner society and way better health care. Also measles clears up on its own and was purposely spead like chickenpox was when I was a kid once you get it shouldn't get it again.  Measles is not DEADLY, it when the 6% infected get Pneumonia that's when the Pneumonia can kill elderly or infants WITHOUT going to hospital.
