checking if there is realy something wrong before storming a home.  and yes, swat teams arent new, but they work different now, some years ago the normal police would arrive first, and call in a swat team if there is real danger around now they raid the homes of small drugdealers with swat teams.

Let's just imagine for a minute that there are 3 people in my house with guns and they just murdered my family and I am hiding in a closet.

Please explain how your scenario works.

Ok lets pretend they found you in the closet and now have a gun to your head, the police with no idea of the layout of your home, your location, the number of suspects just blindly break down the door, what do you think happens to you?  Recon is nice to have which I believe is part of the point Generic is trying to make.

can we please stop pretending that we life in 80s action movies?  its just silly, and we all know that they send in  just some cop that is not on duty, but near.

you should know what is happenig and how it looks inside before you storm a house-

It is a pretty weak sentence for what is in effect multiple cases of attempted murder, especially when you consider he is unlikely to server any more than a fraction of that. sooner or later an incident victim will die from this or a swat member will die from being too hesitant when entering a dangerous situation as they are wondering whether it is another prank.

Saying hes stupid and careless doesnt change anything. Thats the reason most animals are kept behind bars.

its wasnt normal to storm a house without checking anything 10 years ago and it worked, outside the US ist still not normal that a swat team storms homes without checking.

Checking WHAT. You're speaking vaguely, which makes me think you have no idea what you're saying. And yes, 10 years ago, swat was a thing. It's been a thing since the 80s.

Alpha team recons the area, spying on the potential enemy, gathers information and their whereabouts in the house if possible.
When they have gathered enough information, they will inform the Bravo team what to do, and send them in by their cordinations.

If they don't do this, who know how many hostages, guys with weapons or how well it's guarded, it's basically like walking into a trap.

A team can't walk blindly into a potential hostage situation, or a dangerour situation overall. They won't knock on your door but that depends on the phonecall.  If a Swat officer fails to follow instructions even if it was a prank call, he did in fact break a law himself. Instructions are there for a reason.

I'd say 5 years is not enough, but most people are of the younger demographic or just stupid, so 5 years should serve them a lesson

XBOX ONE/Wii U/3DS/PC

RIP Iwata 12/6/1959-7/11/2015

Thanks for all the great memories!

He should have been tried for attempted murder and messing with the law. 15 years would be about right.

you dont think something is wrong if you think a swat raid without people with guns to raid is attempted murder?

@baronyx

i think the real problem is the US police. You dont storm a home just because somebody on the telefon told you some bs.

No, that is a terrible criticism. What if I'm in trouble and I'm requesting assitance? That makes no sense.

And what if I call a firetruck? Should the firefighters send someone to check beforehand?

What if I claim a heartattack in my bedroom. Should the paramedics check my medical records first? Or knock on the door politely? Or see if the neighbor has a key?

The services provided by the state and government are there for our benefit. If you abuse it, you pay for it...you don't "lose it". That's a level of moral understanding supported by childrens fairy tales.

You seem to think (based on your criticism in the second section) that they shouldn't do recon before busting down the door in a hostage situation.  I agree with the unbolded from that section but they are vastly different scenarios from a hostage situation. Perhaps I am misinterpreting your intent (entirely possible), please let me know if I am.

Don't get me wrong, I'd never heard of Swating before today and think it is horribly irresponsible and not a funny prank.

Bear in mind that this is coming from a guy that has walked into a bank wearing a ski mask on a dare. Younger, stupider days, but the first words out of my mouth walking in were "this is just a prank, please don't call the cops"
