Forums - Movies & TV - Scary Movies and my frustration (Thank you Australia!)

Tagged games:

I love scary movies.  The atmosphere, the monsters, the tension, the thrills and chases.  Nothing gets my blood pumping at the movies like a well done scary movie.

So why am I frustrated? Because so many "scary" movies are crap.  They rely not on scaring you, but startling you with quick cuts or loud noises.  It is lame and had me really down on the whole genre.

Then I saw this Australian movie...

If you like horror, see this.  I think it is done at theaters, but should be coming out on DVD soon.  I don't want to spoil too much, but holy crap is this well done.  Small budget and all, it freaked me out and gave me genuine sense of dread and fear.  Thank you Australia for making something that reminds me what this can be when it isn't just trying to be cheap and jump out at me.

Watched it over the weekend, thought it was ok but not that scary.

One of the best movies of 2014. And one of the very best horror movies I've ever seen.

It's amazing that this is Kent's first full-length motion picture. It's smartly written, wonderfully acted, and chilling without relying on cheap scares and gore. I really can't say enough about it.

Exactly! I couldn't agree more.

A scary low budget movie from Australia?

Is it just some dude walking through his house and lifting things up?

Have any suggestions?

Another good one I saw recently was "Oculus" but I have seen several crappy ones recently too like Annabelle and Ouija.

VHS 1 and 2, seen another about some american that gets bitten by a vampire in paris, can't think of the name. they didn't really scare me but I enjoyed them.

Haven't seen it but I'll keep a lookout for it. I suggest both "Let The Right One In" and "Let Me In". The first is the swedish original and the other one is the american remake of the first one. I posted trailers of each movie. Both are good for different reasons but the original is my favorite. I also suggest "Feast". It's a pretty good creature flick with lots of gore.

I haven't watched it yet, but there is a lot of buzz around the movie.

Also, Lake Mungo is another good movie from OZ; it's not scary in the traditional sense but eerie and unsettling.

I actually watched this not that long ago, I wouldn't consider it a horror movie personally. More of a thriller/Drama IMO
