Yeah I saw it earlier this morning, also. With so many actual reasons to bitch about the US, seems silly to try to manufacture one.

Because it's going to take American Sniper's thunder away.
Did not report? Obviously they did. What you wanted to say was: they didn't start a media storm similar to when political motivated gunmen, armed with heavy calibre weapons and link to several terrorist organizations, execut, kill and wound more than a dozen people within a few days (including cops), searched by thousands of police and army personal, and after long suspensful days got surrounded by a large number of SWAT in a media catching show down and die as martyrs in the name of their extremist religious-polictal view. And all this in one of the most famous european cities.
Chapel Hill was the name of the place where those three unfortunate beings were killed?

The general misconception is that racism works only one-way which is false.

Just curious, give me an incident where white people were rioting in the US and it wasn't reported? Also, as the post above yours said...this is on all the major news sites. It's the top story on CNN lol |
There's the top story on a website. And then there's round the clock coverage with panels of pundits, people who've had nothing to do with the occurence being asked to denounce the offender, "expert" analysis, etc. You think anyone is gonna lsbel this culprit a "terrorist' and say that everyone like him need to not be allowed in America? Nope!
And as far as the white people riots go, you not knowing that there have been many instances only proves my point. Feel free to use Google. I won't do your work for you.

That said, pretty horrified as a fellow North Carolinian (Chapel Hill is a few hours away). Such irrational and hate filled violence. Sad.

Not because it's muslims, but because if it had *been* Muslims, why, it would be national news. |
Think we have the winner.
I don't think a lot of people understand how the media works. There was a big case where a British Au pair, Louise Woodward in the US was on trial for the murder of the baby she was caring for.
That went on to become one of the biggest news stories in the UK that year. However, it was only news at all (beyond that city's local news network), because it was a very slow news day in the UK and there just happened to be a (UK) Channel 4 News reporter waiting in an airport where the local news network was covering the story. Had there already been enough content to fill their news slot, or had that particular network's journalist not been sat in a departure lounge where that news story happened to be running, it would never have made it onto our news at all.
The US is a huge country, the National News can't cover anywhere near as much as in other countries. If it's only on local news, it rarely becomes big anywhere other than where it happened.
I think it's reaching a bit to say that it doesn't get mainstream coverage because the victims were muslim. However I definitely agree, had the gunman been muslim, that would definitely have made the national news. Which is really sad for different reasons.
The Fury said: Question, as a British man who doesn't understand media in the US when reporting murders. How many of the US daily murders are reported in the news? Racially motivated or not. |
As an Irish guy living in the US, trust me when I say this. The murders are reported locally and very few are reported nationwide. It's such a different system in the us Compared to european countries such as Ireland or the UK. Imagine if most people watched Euro news and didn't bother with BBC or RTE in their respective markets. That's the how many of my friends are here. So local channels the equivalent of your British BBC report the murders but those channels are nowhere near the importance of viewership of the BBC equivalent. Most people watch Fox News or CNN (equivalent to a Europe wide news channel) and these channels rarely if ever report a murder if it isn't political or a massive racism argument.
FYI in Chicago alone, there were over 400 murders last year. Chicago is three times the size of Dublin. The entirity of Ireland had under 50 murders last year. Further, Irelands figure counts manslaughter. The Chicago number doesn't. (scweing numbers in the US is quite common, similar to how if you check out population figures, they calculate them quite differently to make cities seem larger). Chicago is only a city. If they reported all of those murders......well...they might need a channel dedicated to just murders.

I think his statement proves that. Media chooses what to sell on national TV.

I just admire beauty. I judge what I know and judging by religion is shallow. What else you want me to comment on? They are beautiful people, fact. Killed because religion, FUD.
