Forums - Sony Discussion - RUMOR: Disney may be acquiring Sony?

They can't afford it. Not even at this moment and if anything about such plans surfaced, Sony stocks would skyrocket, easily quadrupling the price for such a takeover. We're talking about 100 billion dollars or more. Only Apple could pull such a thing off. As of may 2014, Disney had 4.4 billion $ cash on hand with 15.4 billion in debt. (if Forbes is anything of a credible source for stuff like that) So they would have to buy Sony solely off of credit. Which bank in the world would give such a massive credit? Also, Sony isn't quite healthy right now, what would be the point? Buy a company for a shitload of money that most likely won't make you that money back in the next 200 years? I don't think so.

Disney buying Sony Pictures could happen, if Sony fails to have some profits in the next few years and they are (once again) desperate for cash.

Disney purchase ABC/ESPN for like $19 billion dollars in the mid-90s (that would be more like $30 billion today).

Been there, done that as far as Disney is concerned.

Sonys assets excluding intellectual property would be worth over 5 times what abc is worth, that's exclusing debt pay downs and paying off deals that Disney may not want with 3rd parties.

I'm pretty sure that Disney isn't interested in buying Sony as a whole since I doubt they want to go into the electroincs business but I'm sure they are interested in Sony movie and music business.

As a fan of Sony products, mainly Playstation and Xperia, I wouldn’t be completely against this, I feel as though Disney are capable of buying something and leaving it alone and keeping Sony as a subsidiary and not re-branding it to something else.

It would just allow Sony to have deep pockets to grab into, I doubt this would happen and I don’t even know if they even have the cash to do it.

A giant being eated by another giant, while the world watches in fear... "shudders"

But I can see Sony Pictures being sold to Disney,if Sony ever needs a lot cash.

And then Disney would do the Mario (besides the obvious Spiderman MCU movies)

Considering the high quality of Disney movies lately, that would actually be a good thing

That's funny. I recently heard an analyst say that it would make sense for Disney to acquire Nintendo

Edit: Video link: They talk about Disney in the last third of the video

It would certainly make much more sense than this speculation (this cannot be called a rumor at all).

This is a bit more then speculation Disney would love to expand their empire but the only thing they would be really interested in is Sony's movie and music business.  I doubt that Disney wants to get in the electronics business they will always be primarily a entertainment company.

Errr that is at most speculation about Disney being interested in buy if Sony wants to sell, nothing close to even a rumor.

This is like saying that because MS bought rare they are preparing to buy Nintendo.
