Eh, you do understand that Sony has assets worth over 15 trillion yen! It's also a conglomerate. As Eddard Stark once said "one does not simply buy a multinational conglomerate."

companies buy companies much bigger than sony all the time, unfortunately for sony most of those assets are offset by debt so the actual value of the company is no where near the value of the assets. If nothing else there massive debt is what actually protects sony as no one wants to take on such huge liabilities. Regardless it is a silly rumour as Disney would not be interested in the electronics business combined with all the problems of acquiring a japanese iconic business.

Ehm no, disney makes less money than sony

Disney is worth far more than Sony actually.

For instance, Sony's ENT value (a theoretical value for how much it would cost to purchase a company with all assets and debts considered) currently sits at about $30 billion. By comparison, Disney's value is currently about $188 billion.

That said, Disney would have no interest acquiring sony itself with its debts and struggling manufacturing segments (which are a huge chunk of the greater conglomerate).

They might have interest in Sony Pictures/SOE/Playstation etc, but that'd be about it.

Disney purchase ABC/ESPN for like $19 billion dollars in the mid-90s (that would be more like $30 billion today).

Been there, done that as far as Disney is concerned.

So really we agree then ? Regardless of debt, Disney would need to shell out to purchase all of their assets. The only way Sony will ever sell is if their creditors purchase pas of them, or the company is splintered into parts. Disney purchasing nintendo would make sense. Not Sony. Sony make some fantastic products. But none of them sell that well. My Bravia 50R550 is magnificent but Sony dont receive good reviews (corrupt reviewers really) so they don't sell. Similar store with Xperia tab and phone. Great but sell terribly. Good image too, but bad pro reviews. It's complicated.

Sonys assets excluding intellectual property would be worth over 5 times what abc is worth, that's exclusing debt pay downs and paying off deals that Disney may not want with 3rd parties.

Not really? I can't really think of more than a few franchises that Sony has that are really worth all that much. There is Spiderman... which was made by Marvel... which Disney owns the majority of rights to.

Yeah, everyone is far overthinking this. If this were true. Which I doubt it is. It wouldn't be for all of Sony. The Columbia Pictures part is really all that Disney would want. There is no point getting involved in Sony's electronics. Btw the way that Sony is set up now it is basically just a whole bunch of companies that share a name. That is why we get funny stuff like how the Interview was released on XBL but not on PSN.

The TV part of Sony is alreday a different company altogether

I think some of you are forgetting that sony is a japanese company and there is no way a non japanese company would get to buy it out. There is a higher chance that nintendo would buy sony than disney and that chance is 0. Its just how japan roles. They prefer to keep everything at home.

sony just sold a part of itself to a New York Financial company. Sony doesn't give a shit who buys it. Take your racism and jingoism out of here.
