Actually, iphone 6 is outbenchmarking the samsung s5 despite the s5 higher spec https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v6d7Fes-eHA. Same result between the 5s and s4. The iphone 6 plus is also outbenchmarking the the note 4 in graphics and and single core bench mark although this time the samsung note 4 wins in multicore benchmark. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oPXHbvAmiUw

http://bgr.com/2014/10/02/iphone-6-plus-vs-galaxy-note-4-5/

well the android is outselling the ios because the ios is exclusive to the iphone line. Heck in the philippines there are alot of samsung model ranging from the cheaper model like the duos  all the way to the top of the line note 4.  And that is from samsung alone, bring in the nexus and all the android who has both phones for the low end and highend market versus the iphone which has only the has the high end market. its not a surprise the android has more users.

And this are all coming from a previous note 3 user.

There are more phones than the Samsung Galaxy s5; take a look at this, for instance:

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/mobile-phone/3573459/xperia-z3-vs-iphone-6-smartphone-comparison/

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-centre/mobile-phone/3515533/whats-fastest-smartphone-2015-uk/

Look at the multicore benchmark scores on the second one and the nod to the superior build quality and display in the first one (as well as the overall victory).

I know perfectly well that iOS is exclusive to the iPhone line and that Android is, in essence, a 3rd party OS that leases its services to several manufacturers, I think you missed my point entirely here; my point was that 86.6% of the global smartphone market seem to think that Android is the better alternative, why do they not choose the superior product that is not overpriced and performs better compared to the competition, according to its fans? Or is it that the 12.3% are just a lot smarter as consumers? Is the majority of the market simply dense?
Why does Apple have higher profit margins than other manufacturers from retail distribution? Doesn't quality cost more to build? Their OS' are basically free, what is driving up the costs then? The development and maintenance of the OS is obviously not an issue since they're making such enormous profits, as mentioned (and iOS is built on ancient framework, which is part of the reason why they've experienced some issues with introducing certain features and also probably why they can afford to offer it for free across their product lines).

Like I said; you missed my point, if iOS and Apple products were superior, fairly priced products, they would surely have a larger marketshare; it's not like Apple has lacked ambition since they launched the first iPhone (or before that, for that matter).

Hats off to Apple for what they're doing; they are master salesmen, Steve Jobs was terrific at his job but he was not a tech-wiz or master innovator, he was a purebred marketing genius. The genius in Apple does not lie in superior products, innovation or even streamlining any more; it lies in the ability to build hype and inflate the perceived value through instilling a hip image with their products.

None of that changes the fact that many, if not most, consider their products to be overpriced and their unfair and anti-consumer and anti-developer policies are not good for any of us, regardless of the user satisfaction of product owners.

PS: I have a Xperia Z1, it's a decent phone. I've tried several others as well, I don't really enjoy any smartphone as I am simply not that interested in smart devices since they have very limited appeal and use to me in everyday life (I don't use services like Instagram or snapchat, I rarely surf even on the subway, and I don't use it for music or movies either). My GF has an iPhone 5, already repaired it twice in about a year and she's downloaded two large updates that caused crashes and problems. Anecdotal, of course, and I also find the interface to be lacking on her phone. I think ideally; I should get a Windows phone since I'm one of those crazy people who like their UI's...

It's beyond me why anyone nowadays would buy an iphone instead of any other phone but good job, apple. They sure know how to convince their audience.

By making convincing products? There is no "Apple" audience, It's not 2006 anymore.

So you say there was an Apple audience but there isn't anymore? Anyway, the market share differs greatly among continents so I guess convincing products still means they are convincing more an audience than making convincing products. This would mean the products would be generally convincing which is not true.

I am talking about the iSheep who bought whatever crap Apple threw at them back then because it was "cool" to support the underdog.

Iphone is successul in every continent. NA, Europe, Asia are buying iPhones in bulks.. What are you talking about?

Oh wow.iPhone 6 is on top of all those benchmakrs except for ONE. Here is your initial statement: "you'll see that the iPhone more often than not underperforms compared to price (fans will then cite the "amazing quality and great design is what makes it worth it")." That a silly thing to say

Please stop. Apple does have the largest market share in the market they competing in. The PREMIUM market.

I am talking about differences in market share. And of course there are still isheep that defend Apple as much as possible. But almost nobody cares about them anymore (at least in Germany).

That's because that market is divided into: low, mid and high end devices. Apple is winning the high-end smartophones war single handedly.

Does Ferrari care the people in whatever poor country aren't buy their cars? They don't.

Of course Ferrari doesn't. But they actually offer something that is indeed more valuable which is the difference. But whatever, nice numbers for Apple but their products aren't for me. I never got into OSX or IOS and probably never will. But this might be due to my decades long computer background, my use-cases are just not what Apple targets.

I'm sorry that my viewpoint that Apple products are overrated and overpriced offends you (you'll also note that the iPhone 6 is by far the most expensive phone in those teste and that my statement was specifically "underperforms compared to price"), I will obey your command and stop with my nonsense.

I enjoy too many benefits of Android, plus the multitasking due to the high RAM capacity in most high end android devices is a must for me plus the limitless level of customisation. All of my friends (anecdotal) are constantly complaining about iPhone battery life, which is never a problem for me with my Z1.

That's because you are not educated enough, just like Mummelmann. Stop preaching you both.

You want the best Camera on a phone? iPhone.

Here, coming from an android fan (jump to 4:40) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6pPIG3EvAs

You want the best smartphone for gaming? iPhone. I don't need a linkt to prove this one.

You want the phone with guaranteed long term support? iPhone.

http://www.cnet.com/news/lollipop-nibbles-off-1-6-percent-of-android-devices/

You want the phone with the best control options over your personal data? iPhone

Best benchmarks on a phone? (who buys a phone based on benchmarks anyway but w/e)

http://www.idownloadblog.com/2014/09/22/iphone-6-performance-benchmarks/

You want the phone with best applications support? iPhone

Other categories that I am omitting are more of a personal preference. So no need to go on.

Apple products are not for you, cool! Until recently, before the introduction of third party keyboards on iOS, Apple products wasn't for me either. But I could easily understand why Apple is selling millions of them.

I don't get why people like you or Mummelmann are baffled with the iPhone success. It's easy: it's a really good phone.

Apple isn't aiming for anything else than the high-end-market and they are doing very well there.

Samsung had 9%. Microsoft lost money. The rest were lucky to break even.

Doesn't sound like a healthy business for most of the Android-Hardware-Companys.

Apple implemented by far the better update-policys for smartphones. Just look at this.

http://www.fidlee.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/AndroidHistoryOfSupport1.png

This has uncomfortable consequences like this.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/google-stops-providing-patches-for-pre-kitkat-webview-abandons-930m-users/

I develop apps for a living and Android is really not my system of choice. I personally use iOS and OS X, but it's even more enjoyable to develop apps for Windows Phone and you have to use Windows 8 for this, which is a pain in the ass. I have to make my apps compatible with Android 2.3 for not cutting out 20% of the Android-Userbase. Android 2.3. This OS is from 2009.

So please brag about how foolish I am paying 700 Euro for a phone, but never say again "Android is so much better", because it is not.
