Forums - Gaming Discussion - Who here realized that Retail Terraria released BEFORE Minecraft Retail?

Minecraft

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minecraft

" the full version was released on November 18, 2011"

Terraira

"Originally released for Microsoft Windows on May 16, 2011"

I never knew that and I am sure I am not the only one. I hear people compare these games fairly regularly but I personally think they have vastly different audiences. To me Terraria is about the adventure and Minecraft is about being creative. So was I crazy and everyone else realize this or is this news to you? Also, to add more of a point to the thread which game do you prefer and why?

Terraria still owes quite a bit to Minecraft either way though. I just thought this was an interesting tidbit.

Anyone want to take any bets on which game will sell more? :p lol

Around the Network

Except that Minecraft had an open beta which gave it a lot of time to become popular due to people sharing the game with each other. I don't think Terraria had anything like this.

This is true, Alpha for Minecraft was released in May of 2009. It is just funny that technically Minecraft would be similar to Terraria since Terraria technically released first lol

The release date of a game is when it is at 1.0 not when it is at 0.1 imo.

This is also true for me but I just feel like Minecraft is an exception to that rule.
