Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Which writers and cast should Nintendo hire for the Live Action Zelda Show?

Written and directed by Michael Bay.

Starring Justin Beiber as Link, Nicki Minaj as Zelda, and Adam Sandler as Ganondorf.

Ugh *barf* sorry

The only way to make even worse than this would be to add Producer: Uwe Boll

Joss Whedon is best known for his abilities to create an interesting group dynamic in things like Firefly and Avengers...while he is talented, the isolated nature of Metroid would certainly not be playing to his strengths.

I'd hope that he'd be skilled enough a writer to handle something that different.

I'm sure he is, but why would you want him to be the dream writer of something so far out of his wheelhouse?

I think this is probably the right answer. Great writer and director, sensitive and respectful to the fans. Has spent years doing the Comic-Con (and the like) circuits. Has done sci fi and fantasy (of a sort). Think he is well equipped to pay homage to the source material while crafting an interesting and credible tale with characters you will actually give a crap about.

I don't think that there's a prominent Western TV show writer who has the credentials. TV and movies have much more urban fantasy and SF than high fantasy, and Zelda is an oddball even by fantasy standards.

There may be some Japanese mangaka or light novel writers with the requisite experience because--unlike the West--Japan actually has a fair bit of high fantasy TV.

Mamare Touno (Writer of Log Horizon) comes to mind as the logical choice. He's not only a damn good light novel writer, but he knows how to handle video game fan communities.

Because that's clearly not all he's good at, and I want those things in a Metroid movie.

See, I disagree because Whedon has not done anything involving high fantasy at all. I expect he would not do a bad job, but the first season (the one which would be make or break for it) would be a learning curve for him.

Sure, but how many directors have done that for TV? It will take more than being true to the fantasy genre to make the show a success and I think that's where Whedon excels.  Also he has enough experience in different genres to make a go of it.

Does Whedon even care about the franchise? I doubt he'd come to TV to make this. He's a big shot with the Avengers now and can have his pick of what ever he wants to do, I doubt a video game adapation on TV is what he wants to do at this stage of his career.

I'd nominate Max Landis, the kid who wrote and directed Chronicle. He's apparently a big Nintendo fan and Zelda fanatic. He wrote (what he admits is a really bad) Super Mario World script when he was a teenager, but it does show he really is obsessed with Nintendo IP, even putting characters like Ness into the script, lol.

So at least you'd be getting someone who really is passionate about the Zelda games.

I'm gonna have to see who netflix uses for their shows then I'll post what I think on it.

Is Troma films still around?  They'd be perfect.
