Forums - Sales Discussion - Wii U will never beat PS Vita! (real sales)

Imo the Wii U has more things going for it than the Vita has so it may pass Vita this year already. Sony just doesn't get it's act together with the Vita and that's not really helping in attracting consumers because it's giving that impression that it may be discontinued sooner or later.

It's clear there is an awful lot of ignorance about the Vita in here, but that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Also seem to be some duplicate accounts being created to hurl abuse at the Vita and OP?

It's already had a very solid set of 2015 releases even in the West and we're only 1 month in.

Given that PSPs were only stopped being sold in 2014, I don't see why people are saying Sony look like they're preparing to drop it. It was clear they changed their objectives with the Vita after 2012 didn't work out.

It's a profitable product for them, they make money on each additional unit sold, a killing on memory cards and plenty of royalties from all the software it has. It's user-base is very active in purchasing software and the software being developed for it is done in full knowledge of the potential user-base hence why companies continue to support it release after release.

2015 is looking like yet another great year of software for the Vita globally too keeping the existing user-base happy.

I don't get why it pains so many on this forum to accept that the Vita does have positives going for it and to trash it at every opportunity. Did it steal your lunch money when you were at school or something?

It's Dr. Vita, every thread he gets the chance, he attacks the Wii U cause, without evidence, he hates the console. Since a certain term here is banned, that's as far as I will go on that side.

But Lol, really Dr. Vita. Vita will be 3 years old THIS month. 3 years at 9.8 million is bad, like really bad. The Wii U will turn 3 years old later this year after heavy hitters are out. Chances the Wii U will hit 13 or 14 million is actually really high this year. Big titles, DLC which is still coming out, and a heathly stable of first party high quality titles.

The games on my head this year for Wii U are:
Project Cars, Kirby, Legend of Zelda, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Lego Jurassic World (I enjoy the lego games), Star Fox, and generally any other side project they have that interest me. I have Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors, both have DLC coming. Smash has Mewtwo, and if they do more content like the free 8-man smash stage update (which made 15 more stages playable in 8 man smash).

Just because China is getting the Vita doesn't mean it will sell well there. Japan is a mobile culture, China is like us, so they may reject it as much as we do here. Considering you can buy a Wii U in China on the gray market says a lot too. In China, PC gaming has always reigned supreme

So you are talking about a game which will release on every other platform? This is a bit paltry.

In Japan they're definitely on the Vita's side and they're the sole reason its selling at this point. Also the reason why I expect Vita to win in the longrun is because the Japanese devs are giving it consistent support and there is no signs of that changing, with further price cuts along the way and another hardware revision likely I think the Vita will continue selling in the distant future at a similar rate to which it is now. Japanese devs won't be in a hurry to abondon a capable handheld wiith a fair install base, I think we'll see a repeat of the PSPs long legs. The Wii U however is entirely dependent on Ninendo's support, I don't see that exisiting past 2016

I don't think you've seen the suppor the Wii U has in Japan, aside from western releases (which most Japanese players care little about), it's getting a lot of Japanese dev love.

Yep, just 1 game in the next 2 months until Xenoblade arrives. This is what I call Japanese dev love. ^^

PSP was a handheld that sold over 80 million, Vita will be lucky to sell 1/5 of that hence why people expect it to get a substantially shorter life.

Nobody is saying Vita doesn't have good games, just that it lacks big games that will have a meaningful impact on hardware sales.

Who's trashing it? If anything the whole point of this thread was to trash on the Wii U using "facts" to make it seem like Vita is better.

I understand that, however software sales have been pitiful outside Japan for most of it's life (especially once it was hacked) and other than the odd XSEED digital release and FIFA, it hasn't really had any releases at all in the West since 2011 (hell Square didn't even deem it worth translating FF Type 0 for it sale have been that bad for the latter half of it's life). But still clung on until last year. It's the viability of releasing software on the platform that determines it's viability.

Btw, not sure if you're aware, but the Vita already has software announced for release in 2016.

Plenty of people say the Vita doesn't have good games on here. I created a thread last year sharing some of the games I was enjoying (many exclusives) and even that was trashed because they didn't count for one reason or another. Thats the reason Vita owners call the software "No gaemz" now too.

The thread was created by the OP to state based on the shipping figures etc, they didn't think the Wii U will ever catch up to the Vita. That's not trashing the Wii U on a sales discussion site. There are plenty more threads saying the Wii U will annihilate the Vita. The initial predictions being that Wii U would be ahead of Vita by Q1 or Q1 2013.

I'm someone who says "Never say never". So I think it's possible the Wii U can beat the Vita. If we're talking about WW sales, then I think it is a matter of time before the Wii U passes the Vita. Seeing how the sales of the 2 consoles have been going, the Wii U has been above the Vita in sales most of the time, and the Wii U has a support of big title games, while the Vita gets by with small titles. Unless the Vita starts picking up soon, it'll fall to the Wii U, though that doesn't make it an accomplishment. Both consoles have been selling abysmally...

May I see your thread? I'm only asking because I've been considering getting a Vita later this year (even though I have a Wii U and 3DS).

Yeah but the only reason the Vita is still breathing is because of Japan.

Uhm the Wii U is doing good and the Vita isn´t. You guys might want to educate yourselves on the matter before you make yourselves look like idiots

They're both selling like crap.

While the Wii U isn't doing amazing it is still averaging 50k a month and the vita is half of that.
