Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony Q3 FY15 Results - Beats Market Expectations & 6.4 Million Shipped PS4's

They shouldn't ditch mobile.. Sales are gradually going up.. They need to market the z line better... Z3 is a really good phone vs gs5.. If they had their mid range phones st a cheap price in the u.s along with a flagship that is promoted.. They would sell way more

At the definite end of the 7th gen, Wii will end up selling the most hardware while also selling the least software in a generation. Now that's something that you don't see everyday

ps3 definitely not
xb360 probably not

the ps4 is just to good in value and much closer in price to ps3 compared to xb360 value and price to xb1
the ps3 will be the fist playsation console with no legs. and even third world countries could not change that. the ps4 is already selling like gangbusters in asia and south amerika. so whats left? afrika? i doubt it. the guys who can afford a console, will buy a ps4. the guys who don't will buy mobile phones

Correction:

ps3 definitely not
xb360 definitely not as well

Financial are decent, as I said they would be.

BUT, they really need to ditch mobile before it becomes the new "TV unit"

PS4 excellent shipment numbers and, as i said, PS3 is dying quickly. Handhelds are a bust.

Sony's mobile problem is mainly that they make too many phones and too many versions of the phones. Hopefully things will be up once they end that.

TV's may be looking up but that might just be a holiday season thing..

"4K sets have boosted Sony’s TV business, meanwhile, helping it turn a profit for three straight months for the first time in over a decade."

2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Great news for Sony. Fantastic news for PS4. Almost 20 Million shipped in this little time is a huge accomplishment.

Like xbox, total Playstation shipments are down YOY (even leaving out handhelds). Unsurprising given the launch year last year (something people decided to ignore when they commented in the MS financials)

Vita is def their last handheld. (or it should be)

I doubt Vita is their last HH. It might not be high in Terms of Hardware sales but its 10mil userbase makes money for Sony. Its bought up by mostly the Hardcore fans and they buy alot of games for it, especially in japan.

They'll make another one, unless you think Sony's going to give up all that third party support to Nintendo next gen? :0

There is no way Sony is making another handheld. They're going to concentrate on home consoles/streaming/VR.

And what 3rd party support? Nobody's developing on Vita except for Japanese devs who will probably all go to mobile soon.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

You think the 360 will sell better in its later years than PS3 when it loses to it on a weekly basis all year round? Sure it gets nice holiday bumps, but not enough to pull it in the lead. PS3 has far better legs in the global market than 360.

It's not doing as well as its predeccessors, but I call selling 5+ million units and counting after its successor released as having legs. Not to mention it still routinely the top platform when it comes to software sales on a weekly basis.

Affirmative, despite some spin. ;)

I guess I've read one to many Microsoft briefings.  Then again almost 20 million is usually less than 19.9 million.

quarterly
ps shipments cy13q4: 7.8m
ps shipments cy14q4: 7.5m
down 4% yoy

xb shipments cy13q4: 7.4m
xb shipments cy14q4: 6.6m
down 11% yoy

yearly (calendar not fiscal year)
ps shipments cy2013: 14.3m
ps shipments cy2014: 18.8m
up 31,5%

xb shipments cy 2013: 10.9m
xb shipments cy 2014: 12.9m
up 18,5%

there u go ;)
down yoy this quarter, but up for the full year
i expect sony to be down yoy next quarter, too. they don't have the japan launch and supply issues in the holiday quarter, that kept demand up
ms could be either way, but probably down, too.

Very solid numbers for Sony. To say they are not great is trying to compare them to numbers of other companies and not to Sony recent past.

And Ps4 keeps beating all projections. Over 50% marketshare before holidays is still a possibility. And ps3 is dying so fast that it propeled ps4 sales really high.
