the "make patapon popular thread" is officially the number 1 reason why one of the most unique games of the last decade has gone on to sell 48,000+ copies and come in 9th in this weeks US sales chart. much to the chagrin of wii owners everywhere, it is possible for a niche game to see solid sales. so hurray for that.

in other news, apparently, despite being on the market for 3 months, vgchartz has rockband on the ps2 as being a new release in the US. maybe some sales chart updates are in order?

First off, why would that bother Wii owners? Being that all good niche titles on the Wii have had good sales and passed the sales expectations of their publishers ... On top of all of this, the PSP has more units sold than the Wii and is a handheld console which tend to have higher sales in unusual niche titles; look at Nintendogs as an example, it was always looked at as a niche title until it was released and sold Millions and Millions of copies.

Although I do find your support for Patapon kind of unusual ... If it was a Wii game you'd be using it as an example of Wii was destroying games, but on a Sony platform its sales are great ...

 Well judging from NFS , GTA , FF : T , Tekken DR , SWB : 2 , Pursuit Force ( EU ) , Madden , Midnight Club 3 DE and tons of other games , I would say yes , PSP games often have formidable legs ;)

So funny.

The reason he's comparing it to the Wii, is because people (even a certain mod) like to compare PSP to Wii sales.  I've said on a few occasions that that is wrong, but since mods are gonna do it, why shouldn't he.  It has sold really good.

Wow, that's a surprise. Looks like Patapon might be the next quirky, Katamari-esque sleeper hit.
