Forums - Gaming Discussion - New 4K-Capable PS4 And Xbox One Consoles Coming This Year, Predicts Netflix

I don't understand going back to curved tv's like the old CRT tv's. The optimal viewing angles are significantly diminished, so anyone not sitting in front of the TV has a horrible viewing experience. Seems like a step back than a step foward.

I doubt Netflix have any idea what Sony and Microsoft are up to...

Of course none of this matters unless you have a 4k TV...

I doubt it. It would be quite expensive for both the consumers and the companies. 4K is not ready to go mainstream yet.

Most movies should be viewed in 4k24, so both consoles should be able to do that right now via HDMI 1.4.

What framerate does Netflix stream 4k in?

A huge 4k TV, or eyes that can discern 2160p resolution instead of 1080p resolution.

Does 4k Resolution Matter?

What the chart shows is that, for a 84-inch screen, 4k resolution isn’t fully apparent until you are at least 5.5 feet or closer to the screen. For a “tiny” 55-inch screen, you’ll need to be 3.5 feet or closer. Needless to say, most consumers aren’t going to sit close enough to see any of extra resolution 4k offers, much less 8k.

The consoles should eventually support 4k video, they are capable after all.

4k video is really not that special it really does increase the detail of the picture(too much detail on ppl faces for my taste)but the upgrade is really worth it nonetheless.

The people who say there is not difference between 1080p and 4k,or that you need gigantic screen to notice the difference either have no idea what they're saying, have not experience enough 4k content; if any, or have really bad eye sight, since I can notice it no matter what distance I'm watching from.

4k video is a nice upgrade and all, but it doesn't compare to 4k gaming.Gaming at 4k increases the detail a LOT,everything stands out on the screen, and even the colors are more vibrant.Anyways just like anything else you get used to it and it kind of loses its "wow effect."

I know for the the PS4 has the ahrdware to support 4K output (I am not sure if it's 30 or 60hz however)... There is at least one developper who tester their game on the dev kit a while ago, it was the PS4 port of Trine if I am correct.

I believe MS made similar claims before the release of their machine.

Basically, they both said 4K would be supported, for movies and other media types, but not for games... however that may change, but I doubt it's relevant on the XB1.

Honestly, for games with simple graphics it should be possible and it would look really clean, that would give us a real reason to get 4K TVs, but I would rather Sony release a 4K PS4 (with a faster GPU and faster memory).

Thank you.

PS4 for sure is capable of 4K for all mediums. As you said, the Trine devs stated that they could run at 4K/30fps per this artical:

I honestly don't get why Sony is holding back 4K on PS4. It is only hurting them. They could be selling and renting 4K movies to every 4K consumer on the market via Playstation Video. Instead they are again letting everyone take the spotlight on somthing that they have had for years, but refuse to release to the public.

Or they have science and facts on their side. This is my post from earlier. That diagram is based off of someone with 20/20 vision. Maybe you just had a really crappy HDTV, so the 4k TV looks awesome in comparison.

Also, I'm pretty sure that 4k has nothing to do with colors being more vibrant.

4K Tv's do look really nice. I've seen a couple with various demos on but like others have said, unless your in the market for a big screen TV, then there really isn't any difference. 1080p and 4K look pretty much the same on any screen under 46". Its only really when you go above and beyond that, that the higher resolutions come into play. So for me, any 4K screens in the 40-45 inch range are just selling it to you on a gimmick, you won't see the difference.
