Forums - Sony Discussion - Playstation Vita sales (2015 vs 2014)

Sony really needs to revamp the Vita. The CPU and GPU are still great, but it needs at least 3GB of RAM, 64GB internal storage, a 1080p screen, and the battery life of the Xperia Z3 phones. If they were to put out a 4G Playstation Phone on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile, they would sell PSV current lifetime sales in less than 12 months in the US alone.

There is a massive amount of room in the mobile market for a Playstation or Nintendo Gaming Phone, and all of the tech to do it is available for very little. The network speed has hit the point were mobile multiplayer gaming, remote play, and PS Now like services are possible. With a Playstation Vita phone, Sony would easily sell enough units, and have a big enough market share that everybody would want a piece of the pie. They need to act fast though, because this advantage they have over everyone else is not going to last for long. This is there last chance to get there own phones, on , there own OS, and capture a sustainable piece of the mobile market share. I really hope Kaz decides to go through with the plans to sell off Xperia or just merges the group with Playstation, as Playstation Mobile Gaming and Communications.

I'm not so sure about a "gaming phone" right now. But I definitely think 64GB onboard would go a long way with the Vita. Especially if Sony actually bothered to advertise their lineup. I mean it's a generation ahead of the 3DS so even now, the launch titles Vita had are a massive upgrade.

Vita is undertracked last year, probabily that was at 2.4m in 2014.
Maybe 1.7m this year?

That it is undertracked has been confirmed, I guess 2.5M seems to be right for 2014.
I predict 3.50M for PS Vita in 2015, you can call me crazy but I believe in the power of Asia! ;)

That reminds me, did the Vita still launch January 11 like they originally announced or was it delayed like the PS4?

I think Vita can do a little more than 2m in 2015, no more than 2.3m
Willing to take a bet on that

Isn't it about time to reveal the next handheld for Playstation? If they do this E3, the sales for the Vita are done for.

Edit: Just looked it up. The announcement for the next handheld should be next year. Never mind.

That's assuming that they're even planning on making another handheld, which is possible but I kinda doubt it. I think they might just content themselves with being the market leader for consoles and leave the handheld market to Nintendo.

Was not there one of these threads for the Wii U too?

OT: I think the Vita should go up at least a couple of times. But no western releases will make it struggle more than it should.

I honestly think it might be best for both parties if this scenerio happened.

Would You add 2013 and 2012 sales figures? It would be interesting to see them all.. Or there's a thread already for that?

BTW Nice trhead, thumbs up!

It has been delayed together with the PS4.

The Gap will increase in the next few weeks until the Asia boost begins (China release and a lot of big games in Japan in the next months). The Vita will catch up the Gap at the latest March 2015.
