ROFL...ya right. Like the PSP could pull FFX

Well, the processor is slightly faster (if they unlock the full potential like homebrew apps have), same amount of RAM, and slightly faster GPU.  I thnk the GPU may have half the embedded RAM, however (4 to 2).  This is according to clock speeds, so if you picky people want to point out which architecture is better, go ahead.  I think it's pretty close.

OMG! ok that's it. it's decided. I will be getting a PSP in the near future. With this and FF:CC and FF:Dissidia I can no longer ignore it.

Finally, a person that recognizes the PSP has some great games coming. I hope the FF games are good...

davygee, was it you that had that thread about the PSP's great 2007? When is Dissidia due?

I had a thread entitled Your 5 most anticipated games of 2007?

In it I had Metal Gear Solid:Portable Ops, Monster Hunter Portable 2, Jeanne D'Arc, Silent Hill Origins and God of War: Chains of Olympus.

This year is a huge year for the PSP with Final Fantasy Tactics due in the US and EU in October, Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core due in September in Japan and expected in the US by the end of the year. Although Final Fantasy Dissidia doesn't have a release date yet, although I expect it to be released sometime this year in Japan with maybe a US and EU release at the start of 2008.

There are also a fair selection of other games coming out for the PSP like the new Star Wars Battleground which will be the only Battleground game out this year and it's PSP specific. There are so many more other games as well...so if you like your Final Fantasies....then get yourself a PSP this year.

Certainly a strong 2007 lineup.   I think another pricecut before the holidays would really help the PSP as well.  Those games certainly will.

Sony have restricted the CPU to up to 222Mhz (only 2/3 of the possible speed), this could be a restriction which could prevent the PSP being graphically better than the PS2....but I reckon at some stage over the next few years, Sony will remove the block and introduce a longerlife battery to help combat the battery drain is will impose.

I reckon we are now seeing what can be done on the PSP and it will only get better.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Definitely it will be the best year for PSP ever. This game looks awesome. I'm going to kick some Persian asses too ! !

EDIT:

I'd like to repeat myself - ON YOUR KNEES ! !

If you use custom firmware you can run anything at 333MHz.  I believe they limited it to save battery power, but I know that Size Matters raised it.  I believe it was to 266MHz.  God of War might very well raise it to 333MHz which is fine with me since I run games from my memory stick anyway and have an extra battery pack with my case (X2 battery pack, too, which lasts 7 hours or so playing games/movies).

I agree that the potential is just now being approached.  Portable Ops, Size Matters, and Chains are really showing that potential.  I assume the 2 Final Fantasy PSP games will do the same.

When the PSP pushes something like this out, then I'll say it's stronger than the PS2.

Well if I hadn't of known which game they were from I couldn't tell the difference.  I guess that means mission accomplished?

I think there's more detail in the PS2 shots. Not only that, but you can play God of War 2 in 480p on the PS3. On a tiny screen, yes, God of War will still look gorgeous. But the point is that the PSP is weaker than a PS2. If you were to stretch a PSP game to the same monitor size of a PS2, it wouldn't be a close comparison, in my opinion.

Exactly, it's a resolution of 272x480 vs 480x640. Granted, the PS2's output resolution can vary greatly, but it goes without saying that it's still putting a heck of a lot more pixels on screen than the PSP.

The PSP is more like the dreamcast in terms of power.

Actually 480p goes as high as 480x720 so it's even more slanted in the PS2's favor.

Still, this game looks great.
