Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why no PS PLUS type service on Wii U?

Why doesn't the Wii U have a yearly subscription service of say $50 a year like on the PS3? Nintendo's Wii U has a small install install base of 9m. However there is a fiercely loyal and hardcore group among them. I could see up to 1m subs to a service like this. That would equal about 50 million in extra revenue yearly.

Anyone have an opinion for or against this?

I think a virtual console subscription service would work well

You know. I didn't think about it until now but with Nintendos plan to cancel Club Nintendo later on this year, I could see them switching to a subscription format where they offer free or discount older games to subscribers...

It could provide incredible value for a lot of people.  Maybe a mix between retail nintendo and 3rd party games along with older virtual console games. Maybe even go the full hog and charge for online but include this in the package.

charge for online? no thanks I have no interest in paying for online on more than one console

I hope they don't cause if the ps3 was anything to go by, it will only lead to Mandatory subscription model which is essh. And heck, Club Nintendo already gives people indie/vc games for "free" so neh. I just hope that whatever they are going to come up with after club Nintendo will be good and free with no pay plans cause I really don't want MK9/SSB5 locked behind a paywall

Well it's Nitnedo, they seem adverse to change.

There are many, many, many, many, many things Nintendo should do about their online service.

There are plenty of things left to be done before an eshop+.
