For nintendo... Nintendo adopted a light blue case for wii u because of the U in the wii u logo being light blue
Less emphasis overall on the blue vs ps logo
Plus the 3DS adopted a red logo
Was red now grey nintendo logo (So overall branding)
Mario being nintendos main mascot, moreso than simply an IP:
3DS box generally being the color of console rather than an overarching theme
Wii u/3ds OS following theme of shiny white
Edit: So thats my argument for why PS should be blue, and nintendo should be something other than blue. Blue matches wii u branding, but not nintendo branding
Red or gray would be the obvious choices
