All we've had is 3.9 million from December 2013.

I highly doubt Microsoft will go through the rest of the gen giving shipping numbers only, so what are your thoughts?

not for a couple years

WW? Never, unless they somehow overtake PS4 WW. Maybe if they reach a big milestone like 50m, but otherwise I don't see them giving sold through numbers.

Didn't Sony do similar tactics in PS3s initial years?

Regardless, we all know why: If MS says hard numbers, it will be a concrete gap between them and Sony. Shipped makes the numbers fuzzy, which is what a not-#1 competitor wants.

when either they have something very positive to say or when the fact that xbox is loosing is very clear to the news outlets even when ms obscures the data with "nearly almost shipped" figures. ms won't clarify numbers they purposefully obscured in order to generate a better public perception.

If they were smart they would never release sales numbers, a la Amazon with the Kindle. Perception of your product can be hurt if the numbers are too small.
