This gen is selling more home consoles and more software than ever before, and I remember media saying console gaming were going to die, new consoles couldnt compete with tablets, smartphones, smart tvs and etc...

Those analysts were deadly wrong, só wrong that all should get fired. Gaming consoles are better than ever and handelhelds still big business.

Sales of consoles were dropping late 7th gen. Guess it had been so long since a new gen they forgot that its normal for sales to slow down before a new generation starts =P

I don't know if I agree with you but you should know that most game analysts are old men who know basically nothing about video games. They barely do any "analyzing", it's mostly guesses based on marketing experience.

Some people don't think that we need a console after this gen. The internet is getting faster and services like PS Now will get better.

Who knows... maybe we get a different type of console.

I would like to say that its cause they are just stupid and dramatic. But that may not entirely do such people justice. I think its the peculiar nature of this industry these days though. sensationalist, bad news just gets more attention than good news. They all looked at how poorly the WiiU was doing, and concluded console gaming was dead, while even a smart fool could have told anyone why the WiiU was doing so poorly, then the PS4 and XB1 came along and broke all sorts of records and now they have all kept quiet.

All kinds silly if you ask me. Till their is a way for sites or authors to be held fully accountable for the nonsense they say stuff like that will never change. Hell, Patcher said the XB1 having Skype would be a killer app. I found out about that when video chatting in Skype on my phone with a friend of mine who told me what he said. On my phone. That should go to show you how stupid some of these people are.

We even have some of them here on VGC, though now their tone has changed from consoles are dead to the console market will contract.... like that's a bad thing.

Stronger than ever? Musta be kiddin. When i look at the games i've played on PC lately i see... stagnation. No wait, regression.

I don't what the world looks like in 2020, but much also depends on the publishers you can only get certain game experiences from Sony and Nintendo first party studios.
