But two of those games will pass Musou Orochi is sales easy.

NInja Gaiden:Sigma will sell well b/c of the lack of Japanese who owned/played the game on xbox.
Hot Shots Golf 5 is coming out, and that series is HUGE in Japan.

May I inquire as to why you think Ninja Gaiden Sigma will be a huge seller?  The series previously wasn't such a huge seller in Japan, and the Xbox version moved a mere 66,713 copies according to this site.  Dead or Alive did a lot better on Xbox than that (double).  I'm not saying I think it'll bomb with Virtua Fighter 5-like numbers, but I don't see how it's going to blow by Musou Orochi or even Gundam Musou.

Hot Shots will be interesting to watch as it is a very popular series.  But again, will a new version of a cartoony golf game reall push $600 systems?  I also don't think PS3 sales will do much more than double when it comes out, if that.

Im intersted in why HSG is viewed to be so good. The best of its iterations sold 1m+ in Japan right? Thats certainly big, but I thought that was about on par with Musou and Gundam over there also? Not to mention when HSG hit those numbers it had a massive userbase, we are talking about a userbase that will be around 1m total when that game releases. Does noone think that will limit the games selling potential? I felt the same way about Zelda TP. Has sold over 4m worldwide, and Miyamoto said he was dissapointed with it. Lol, Friggen game launched with the console so it had a userbase of zero to work with. What in the holy hellfire was he expecting?

If it's any consolation to the PS3 Fans, I don't think the sales situation in Japan can or will get much worse. ;)

Actually, I think you're wrong ...

The PS3 doesn't have any game releases in Japan until mid June, and only has 4 game releases for June, July and August

OK, I'd like this to be the last time (it won't), but ONE (or even TWO) game(s) cannot save a system!  Sure, they may help ship a few more units, but they don't CARRY hardware, EVER.

 Don't believe me?

Halo

Halo 2

Ninja Gaiden (funny, this didn't save Xbox, but it will save PS3?)

Zelda Wind Waker

Super Smash Brothers

RE4

Mario Cart Double Dash

NONE of those games, which were all fantastic and popular, saved their respective systems from being CRUSHED by SONY.  Hardware sales will NEVER be tied to a few hit titles, but a HUGE and diverse LIBRARY will sell systems.  In the previous generation, compare Nintendo's stable of 1st party hits to Sony's 3rd party support.  On average, Ninty's games outsold every 3rd party title (on a PER game basis), but the TOTAL number of software sold by PS2 3rd party support humiliated Link, Mario, & Co.

Personally, I bought a Gamecube first, for the 1st party games, then, I bought an xbox, because it was a superior system, to enjoy all of the cross-platform games (even those that were also on the cube).  Finally, I HAD to buy a PS2 for, what?  GT 4?  FF XII?  God of War?  Nope, nope, and nope.  I wanted other games in the library, Monkey Island, Silent Hill 3, Okami, Disgaea, etc.  In short, I wanted, not the triple A, blockbuster titles, but access to the HUGE and varied library of the PS2 catalogue.

PS3's problem is that it has no catalogue!  4 games in what, 3 - 4 months is not a library, it's PATHETIC!  Only a system on LIFE support should be recieving that few new releases, not a $600 risk that the consumer is not quite ready to swallow.  Funny how the PS2's greatest strength has become the PS3's greatest weakness.  Basically, a good library is throwing dozens of games, then hundreds, at consumers until a couple of them stick.  And it won't be the same mix for every customer, that's why there need to be MORE gasmes for the PS3, and fast!  Look at the 100+ games in development for the Wii - there should be something for everyone, maybe several somethings.

Sure, I WANT to play Lair, REALLY REALLY want to play it, but if they don't start backing it up, I'm not dropping $600 for ONE game, not even 3 or 4.  I need at least 9 or 10 titles that I would consider buying before I take that kind of plunge, and looking at the sales numbers, most consumers agree with me.

That sort of reminds me the first year the 360 was out. 2 titles that come to mind that really helped the 360 were Dead Rising and Oblivion. Then that year was capped off with Gears of War.

"No games, no gains. Simple"

wait i thought the wii had "no games"

"could anyone compare sales of ps3 60GB for 200$ ? =)) i just wonder, what would faster sold out, 1000 ps3 for 200$ or 1000 Wii for 200$. =) interesting, how fast would be selling Wii for 500$? =)) p.s. for any of you, what would you buy, a wii for 200$ or ps3 for 200$ ?=))" ??????....

@your mother one of your best posts ever ... "a wii for 0,99$" YEEES :)

PS3 future !! where is it ?

I thought all that was important about a console is how many games it has that you want to play. So far wii has...2 games that I'm interested in. Zelda and Fire emblem. Not a very good reason to buy a console because of two games :/ On the other hand ps3 has 13 - resistance, tekken, vf5, double agent, ridge racer 7, motorstorm, armored core 4, tony hawk's project 8, enchanted arms, genji 2, full auto 2, gundam crossfire and gundam musou. So its 13 against 2...it's not even a competion :/ Same with the ds and psp. I could care less if wii sells 100 times the amount of ps3. If it only has games for casual gamers...it's just something I don't need. So I really don't understand why are all the nintendo fanboys so fixated on the sales of either platform? And don't give me that bs about how the developers will make games for the platform with the biggest userbase. If that were true the pc games developers would still make games for the 486.

I agree with this statement to a certain extent (PS2 with DVD playback capability notwithstanding).

That is your opinion. Others may have different criteria as to what they want to play. You see two Wii games you'd like to play and 13 PS3 games you'd like to play. I'm quite sure that there are others out there who may say the opposite.

This is a console sales-oriented site - you have to expect people to be somewhat fixated on sales volumes, right?

Again, that's your opinion. I don't think anyone on this, or any other site, has been able to provide an all-encompassing definition as to what constitutes casual and hardcore gaming, so this point is moot IMO.

Nobody is giving you any BS, even though it seems like the trend. And for your information, there are games designed for the lowest common denominator - not necessarily 486 cpus, but flash-type/java mini games found on your typical portals that happen to attract droves of gamers ("casual" and "hardcore"), and can be run on virtually any computer still operating under our sun.

BTW, welcome!

Yes of course others may have different criteria. That was exactly my point. I see so many nintendo fanboys talking happily about how ps3 will fail and they don't give a damn about the gamers that actually enjoy the games that the ps3 can offer. It's great to see the console you like doing great but all that mudslinging is getting a little out of hand :/

I thought that the main sales point of the wii is that it's geared mainly towards casual gamers? Heck if it has enough games that I like I would buy it in a second. Actually I'm still contemplating since I never got around to buying the gc but...I would still like it to have some more wii games.

True many devs try to make the games as compatible as possible. Still if they were limited to only that common denominator there would never be games like half-life 2 and FEAR ( I'm mentioning fps because they're usually the games with highest hardware requirements). What I'm trying to say is if there weren't high-end computers there would be a lot of games that wouldn't see the light of day. Same with consoles. Ps3 is high-end, wii is the common denominator. And yet nintendo fanboys want the high-end platform to vanish... I don't get it :/

Thanks for the welcome ^^
