The Dreamcast sold 10.6 consoles world wide. The PS4 has beat that. The Dreamcast sold 2.32 million consoles in Japan during its entire lifespan (November 1998 through March 2001). The PS4 has sold over 1 million consoles in Japan through its first full year. There aren't a lot of awesome games out for the PS4, especially not games that fit the type of gameplay that the Japanese culture appears to enjoy. The number of PS4s sold in Japan will exceed 2.32 million through the life of the PS4. That can't be proven, but that's my bet. The Dreamcast isn't doing better than the PS4.

That is my thought as well, although if I don't like Final Fantasy XV then I'll be hoping it doesn't sell consoles.


FF XV will sell consoles just as much if not more than FFXIII did. This time I think Square might go through with the PS4 exclusive release in Japan.

How is this compared to other consoles? Anyone got any data?

Anything from PS2 onwards would be interesting but even older consoles would be nice to see.

Dreamcast sold 1.1m in one year, according to MC. PS4 1.05m in one year minus 3 weeks. They're on par, not WAY behind. Plus the home console market was stronger and DC had a price cut. And DC's start wasn't even that terrible, Sega just killed it early.
