According to VGChartz the PS4 has sold over one million consoles in Japan.

Given the current lack of Japan centric games on the console I am impressed with the PS4 reaching this milestone so quickly.

Hopefully games like Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD remake, Final Fantasy Zero and Final Fantasy XV will really kick things off.

Meanwhile, M$ would be dancing in the streets if this were accomplished lifetime in Japan for the XB1.

 

So, Sony knows that Japan is moving away from consoles and they are not worried.

Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

PS4 is about 200k behind PS3 at the same point in time.

1M in less than a year and without any major releases is a good accomplishment. I'm sure 2015 will smile a lot more at PS4 with the upcoming big games.

i think this is awesome to be honest, i remember people making threads on last february saying that the PS4 was a failure on japan and that it had zero chance to ever catching up to the Wii U, and now less than a year later the PS4 already sold 1 million with almost zero japanese centric games, and now the PS4 starts its second year that will be as filled with japanese games as one of the late years of the PS3.
