Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Iwata: “Wii U Is Not Over Yet”

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says that the Wii U isn’t going anywhere yet despite only managing to shift 9.2 million units since launch in 2012. Iwata told Japanese news publication Sankei that there are many more unannounced titles in development for the platform.

“Wii U is not over yet. I want to continue to build on playing on people’s high expectations [for the system].”

Seems like Nintendo keeps their promise of satisfying Wii U owners first before moving on to another system! E3 this year will be interesting...

Excellent news! I will certainly be looking forward to more fap worthy announcements!

The worst thing they could do would be to rush a new console out and basically alienate everyone. They'll have a large window to release one in the coming years as Microsoft is content to sit on the Xbox 1 for some time and Sony really isn't in a position financially to make a new console anytime soon, and why would they want to the way they're dominating this generation?

No reason to pull a Sega and just throw consoles at the problem.

Hope this thread helps those who think there will be a new platform in 2016.

Two more years...

People's expectations, he said.
Metroid, F-Zero, Earthbound 3, Mario Galaxy 3 incoming! :D

Iwata should use what's left of Wii U's lifecycle to try and recapture the core gamers by developing games they never tried making (Splatoon is a good step in that direction) so that these new franchises can carry over into next gen with more ease.

How does this change anything exactly? If the successor comes out next holiday, thats two full years of support. That's the definition of not over yet.

That doesn't have to mean that you are not furiously working on a successor, right? RIGHT?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Thank goodness! Wii U will survive until 2017+ confirmed.

I think that shouldve been obvious without him even having to say so.
