Forums - General Discussion - IT SNOWED TODAY!!! GLOBAL WARMING DISPROVED

Oh, and I live in a classified Desert, with something like 2 inches of precipitation per year, on average... in 2004 we received 3 feet of snow on campus here.

Desert doesn't mean hot... it only means arrid.

But, in my 6 years living here, I've seen -16F for three days, as well as 115F for two days. That's quite the span.

Therefore, Checkers > Halo

So, Checkers is a better game than Halo.

I say the biggest flaw in global warming is calling it that. Detractors actually use the warming part to mean it will never get cold (which was even worse when it was called the greenhouse effect), when the actual effect is to wreak havok with the weather.

Think a warming trend can't do that? That's exactly what the el nino does, just in the ocean, instead of the atmosphere.

So I am dead serious that this should have been called the global el nino. That makes it clear what it is.

And insisting Gore jumped to conclusions (looking at you, luinil) just shows your ignorance. Gore did not believe in it at first, and took years to be convinced. Therefore, he could not have jumped to conclusions, by definition.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Do you people seriously know WTF global warming is? Its not how you think it is, its not ITS GOING TO GET OVERZ DAZ 200 DEGREEZZ!!

The ozone layer is weakening, and there will be much colder winters, and much warmer summers. Thats Global warming, not ITS HOT FOREVAZZ!!

Actually, that is a hole in the ozzone layer (the first part). Global Warming is becuase of excess CO2 in the atmosphere which is traping more UV rays (or is it infired). It's not as bad as they make it out, but it still has some effects. It will be slow. If is weaker and slower, then we can stop it by burning fewer fossile fuels (and it may fix it's self when all the oil runs out in 25 or so years). It does happen, but no where near what people say it is.

OK, what I meant to say in my last post was that I don't believe in extreme artificial global climate change (which means I believe it is probably a natural process, and that human impact is very very small)

Al Gore got tired of the fact that nobody was paying attention to him.  He went from a Presidential candidate, a brilliant inventor of things like the internet, to a forgotten thing of the past.

Al Gore found a hobby horse that he could ride like a ferocious beast that would put him back in the spotlight, and this is a very inconvient truth; but it is so.

Global warming is happening. This year things got a bit cooler, but we are definitely on an upward trend. It will take more than a year to reverse that.

Now the question is, what is the cause of global warming? Yes, an increase in CO2 levels should theoretically cause the Earth to warm, however, we have no conclusive evidence as to what effect the current levels of CO2 are having, and how much would be need to significantly alter the Earth's temperature. We honestly have no idea. All we know is that the Earth is warming up. However, the Earth's temperature has fluctuated all over the place for the past ~4.6 billion years, so for all we know, the Earth is just doing it's thing.

I don't see why the human race should suddenly cut back on everything and anything simply because there is a POSSIBILITY that we may be causing the Earth's temperature to rise. Should we take better care of the environment, and not waste resources left and right? Yes. However, we shouldn't just stop living. Chances are, whatever we cut back will have little to no effect on the end result. The Earth is the Earth. It's not going to let some puny humans bitch it around.
If you are wrong(man cause climate change)

we do nothing : worst of climate change happens.

we de everthing: only hit is on the economy which is easy to fix. (and we also avoid peak oil)

If you are right (man dosen't cause climate change)

we do nothing : Nothing happens.

we de everthing: only hit is on the economy which is easy to fix. (and we also avoid peak oil)

So are you prepared to gamble the entire planet on the basic of you being right?

Lol I know huh? then why do they call it global warming O_O is weird, they sould call it emmmmm ozone layer weakening-threathens-teh-human kind thing

People here are THICK on this subject.

I don't want to even bother getting into it cause I'm too late to the party and no one is going to read about what it is...

C02 is thickening the atmosphere which has two effects.

1. It causes more UV rays to bounce away from the planet

2. It traps more IR rays inside the atmosphere which in turn heats up cold areas because they bounce around inside the thicker atmosphere.

Global Warming talks about these IR rays which are heating and melting the polar ice, however most global warming theories don't take into account the decreased UV rays that can make it through in the first place because the atmosphere is thicker in the first place.

This is where the weakness and strength in the Global Warming arguments come from. There is a major factor that most Global Warming 'non' believers don't take into account and that is that the UV directly from the Sun will always penetrate more than IR rays that are rebounding from the surface - but this has always been the way, so it is possible that the thickening of the atmosphere is basically doing a +2IR -2UV = 0 and negating itself out (laymens terms).

Unfortunately the US government is freaking annoying and stubborn and refuse to agree with it (in majority) and therefore they continue to mong up the world (yes this makes me angry).

catprog makes the best point much

+1

And it doesn't matter if you believe that Global Warming is a farce or a "Natural" thing..

Check out any major city and look at the smog. Breathing in that crap is not healthy. Even if you don't care about raising temperatures, you should care about what you breath in.

for those that doubt if it is man made or not that's fine but you also need to know not all changes on this earth are slow. Polar ice caps are getting smaller the smaller they get the faster they can shrink if they shrink too much they can mess up the ocean currents and significantly alter all the weather on the planet. I personally believe we as people have offset the balance and need to find a way to better balance the way we live. It is minor how much we do but just getting it unbalanced can allow the unbalance to accelerate. I think it's better to try to prepare for it than to ignore it or blow it off as saying it's only natural.
