With today Nintendo financial report and monday MS report we have updated numbers for consoles shipments. And what is crystal clear from that is how much better at inventory planning Nintendo is.
We have WiiU at 9.2M shipped and VGC shows it at 8.9M sellthrough, and from those 300k on shelves over half is sitting in Japanwith all other countries being supplied with razor edge precision. With 3DS things are so mature that Nintendo allowed itself to only have 20k console shelves, with Japan having 100k on its shelves Nintendo managed to sell in other countries HH that haven't even be shipped yet so hot it sells and so good Nintendo is at predicting demand.
Now on MS side they have a combined shipments Ltd for x360+x1 of 98.8M with 3.3M sitting on shelves with estimatives of that being 1.8M X1 and 1.5M X360. Mind you that on holidays x360 done so good it outsold WiiU for the quarter. So much on shelves that makes you think what is MS thinking.
Of course WiiU on shelves are equivalent to last Q4 sales and MS saw a surge in sales and units on shelves represent around 45% of last quarter shipment.
What reason do you think makes Nintendo so much better than MS at inventory planning?
