Forums - Sony Discussion - Vita one step closer to death - Loses YouTube support

Vita means life, it'll never be dead.

Around the Network

Vita is dropping the Youtube APP not Youtube support. You will still be able to use Youtube through the Internet browser app on the Vita.

The app now displays this message:

It appears that after 20th April, the app won't work. Oh well, YT in browser ain't that bad.

Does one really need to access YouTube with every device in their possession? This reminds me of when people were whining about no YouTube on PS4. In this case, I'd rather use my Vita's battery for gaming and my phone for YT. Hell, can't use Chromecast with Vita either.

Not a big deal for me personally, but I can see some people being upset about it.

Not much of a loss, Vita should be for gaming first and foremost and you can still YT via the browser.

On a related note, I've hated YT apps since day one. I avoid the one on my WiiU like the plague (assuming it's as restrictive as I think it is) and use the browser instead because I can instantly browse the net from there and open up new tabs. I get a free navi there too.

And according to this article, http://www.vgchartz.com/article/252924/sony-dropping-some-functionality-from-the-playstation-vita/
"Sony is dropping support for some of the functionality of the PlayStation Vita. The update that will occur in March was outline and several features will be removed.

The update will remove the PlayStation Vita's built-in maps application, as well as remove some features from the Near social networking application. The YouTube application will later be removed on April 20. However, users can still access YouTube through the handheld's browser."

You can search for another video and scroll through the search results on the Gamepad while a video is still playing on the TV. I really enjoy the app. My only problem with it is I can't manually adjust the video quality. It seems to auto select a quality based on my current internet speed.

YT app, maps and Near is no big deal. I don't imagine a lot of users use Near or Maps on Vita and YT still works in the browser so not an issue.

That sounds nifty. Might actually give it a try then. Thanks for the info.
