Well... Arcade fight sticks don't require thumbs...

But, don't let the doctors words get to you. People have, plenty of times in the past, defied their doctors' beliefs. You have the proper mind-set, you can do it. It doesn't apply to just games, but literally everything in life. You have the final say over things that happen in your life, not some doctor looking at statistics.

You can still play games some of way your own control style, but you need to practice. I have a friend of mine that he has only 3 fingers(like ninja turtle's) on his right hand... Umm not a loss actually, he's kinda mutant. xD So, yeah, he plays street fighter with fight stick arcade controller, he's really really really good fighter. :D
