I'm in the same boat. I LOVED FFX, FFX-2 was good too. FF12 -- was ok, but I didn't complete it. I didn't want to, it got.... boring. Not a fan of the MMO style gameplay, the turn based system in FFX was perfect. I want a FF game that goes back to that.

Final Fantasy X had the best turn-based system, in my opinion. I liked the Sphere Grid. I, also, am not a fan of Final Fantasy XII's MMO style of gameplay. Final Fantasy VIII was, by far, my favorite Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX were fantastic, and I loved Final Fantasy Tactics (the orginal one, not Advanced).

It's funny you made this thread when your favorite is VIII, considering it was the most different at the time and alienated a sizeable portion of FF fans who were introduced to the franchise with VII or were fans of the "classic" titles that came before. I guess different works then.

It's the third best selling Final Fantasy game... It's right after Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X. Which means that my point still stands (Final Fantasy VII through Final Fantasy X it seems are the best Final Fantasy games). Just because you didn't necessarily like it, or understand it, doesn't mean that the rest of the world felt that way. I don't know where you facts come from that a sizeable portion of Final Fantasy fans were alienated when Final Fantasy VIII came out. Final Fantasy VIII has a huge fanbase. Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy X are all in the top five sellers of the Final Fantasy series according to VGChartz.

I'm almost in the same boat as you but I'm willing to see what happens with FFXV then I'll decide if I'm done with with the series. I really hated FFXIII and it's sequels. I didn't care for FFX and FFVIII. I liked FFXII and FFVII & everything below it.

Well duh, hence why I said different works. VIII is one of my favorites too. However, it is a fact that many gamers were turned off by the game at the time since they were expecting another VII (look at the drop in sales between VII and VIII), and then the drop between VIII and IX due to another shift in image.

I think you and I are saying the same thing, that VIII sold so well despite being so different and alienating, and while it may have a bigger share of haters than VII or X, it is still cherished by many fans like you and I.

And this is why I thought it was funny that a VIII fan created this thread. You should know from experience that sometimes going in the opposite direction yields satisfying results.

They all say that. See you when XV comes out!

I'm guess FFXV is everyones last chance SquareEnix has for Final Fantasy, if they fuck it up it's over.

Everyone always has divided opinions of what Final Fantasy should be. I for one am glad they always change things up because its what keeps the franchise fresh. If people want traditional RPGs so much they should stick to Dragon Quest and Bravely Default since it appeals to the old school gamer who complains about any type of change.

I have played , finished and replayed and refinished every main FF game since the Nintendo one all the way to FF X.
FF XII was the first one I played and didn't replay from start.
I had 2 walkthrough with FF XIII cause the first time was a rent at a friend's house, second time I bought the game.
I played and hated FF Xiii-2.
I didn't even bother buying Lightning Returns.
And I am not sure if I want to give FF XV a chance.
I am about to give up on the franchise too.

I was done after XIII, XV looks promising, hopefully the story is as good as the rest of the game looks.

i have no hype at all for FFXV and i used to be a huge fan of the series, but it all went downhill with the release of FFX-2(The MMO's are fine games but i don't really count them, i just count the single player experiences)

From what i have seen from FFXV it seems to preserve most of what i hated from FFXIII(only control 1 character and shit like that)

They changed it from medieval fantasy to some modern fantasy with cars and other stuff.

shocking. But I still love square tho.....(not FF).
