Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Post your favorite competitive Pokemon teams!

I don't know how many of you are into competitive battling, but I sure am! If you have any particular teams that you're proud of, or want any advice adjusting one of your teams, here's a great place to do it! Here's one of mine:

-----

"Django" (Black Sludge) *Dry Skin

Jolly w. +252 Att +252 Spe

- Drain Punch

- Ice Punch/Poison Jab

- Sucker Punch

- Swords Dance

Toxicroak is my fravorite Pokemon, so I always have it on my team. The moveset is pretty straight forward. Drain Punch is such a dangerous move to run into. Sucker Punch is great for Psychic types, and destroys Gangar. After one or two Swords Dances, Toxicroak it near invincable. Ice Punch is franckly more useful than Poison Jab, even with fairy types everywhere. Still, I find myself switching between the two. It's pretty easy to switch in on a water attack, and then Swords Dance on the switch. Toxicroak is suprisingly bulky, especially with the support of Drain Punch.

"Bruce" (Assault Vest) *Motor Drive

Naive w. +252 Spe +140 Att +116 SpA

- Thunderbolt/Discharge

- Flamethower

- Earthquake

- Ice Punch

This Electivire set is always a good suprise because many expect a physical set. Flamethrower is definitely the standout move here, as it get a LOT of suprise kills from players not expecting it. Earthquake and Icepunch offer excellent coverage. I used to run this set with Expert Belt, but Bruce appreciated the added bulk a lot. It's SpD goes from 185 to 277. While that's no tank, it lets him survive a lot of things he simply should not. Motor Drive is also a notable ability. Frankly, it can turn Electivire from a nuicance into a significant threat, and it's extremely easy to pull off in OU, as many people simply aren't used to them. I used to have a Jellicent and a Mega Aerodactyle double as Electrice Move bait, and it pretty much always worked, but now that I've replaced one with Mega Altaria, the entire dynamic of my team has changed.

"Recoil" (Rocky Helmet) *Iron Barbs

Relaxed +252 HP +204 Def +52 SpD

- Gyro Ball

- Power Whip

- Protect (Wish he knew Spiky Shield or Synthesis)

- Thunder Wave

Recoil my be the most useful Pokemon on this team. It pretty much shuts down any physical threat without a fire move. Are you afraid of Mega Kangaskhan and it's Fake Out? I'm not. Mega Heracross giving you trouble with it's multihit moves? Not a problem with Recoil. It's the ultimate physical punisher. It can really screw with your opponents. I've won so many matches because my opponent was to afraid to use a contact move that would have won them the game. I use Protect to scout fire moves, and Thunder Wave as support moves for Django and Bruce. Gyro Ball and Power Whip are great STAB moves that help Ferrothorn not be useless from taunt. It's also great against Fairies now, which is a complete accident, as I used this same set last gen. Recoil sorely misses having a solid way to recover health. He usually is more of a "get hit and run" Pokemon, so Leech Seed isn't as useful as one would hope. Same with Ingrain. I dream of the day when Ferrothorn as a real recovery move.

"Install" (Eviolite) *Analitic

Calm +252 HP +104 Def +152 SpD

- Thunder Bolt

- Ice Beam

- Thunder Wave

- Recover

Porygon-Z used to be my favorite Pokemon, so I was pretty excited when I figured out a way to work Porygon2 into my team. It used to be run a little differently, being much more physically bulky than it currently is, but once I added Mega Altaria to my team, I realized that I had to many physical walls on my team. I changed some EVs around and switched its nature from Bold to Calm, and now we have the Install here before you. Install 2.0, if you will. I also changed it's ability from Trace to Analitic. It's not that Trace is useless, but that the added attack power is more useful. It's always a gamble what abilies Install will pick up match to match, and most of the time, Install doesn't really benefit from them. I might go back to Trace if I really miss switching into Intimidate users, but I'm fine for now. BoltBeam for coverage, Thunder Wave for support, and Recover because you've never truly been stalled until you've met a Porygon2.

"Popcorn" (Altarianite) *Pixilate

Calm +252 HP +252 SpD

- Hyper Voice

- Ominous Wind/Flamethrower

- Cotton Guard

- Roost

The newest addition to my team, and it's frankly remarkable. What initially looks like a simple special tank reveals itself to be one of the most annoying Pokemon in the metagame. After just two Cotton Guards, Mega Altaria's already respectable defence becomes damn near inpenatrable. Roost helps give Popcorn legs, and Hyper Voice lets it hit pretty decently with a boosted STAB Fairy move. Having a Dragon move on this set is pretty redundant, so I've been conflicted between Ominous Wind and Flamethrower. While Flamethrower has much more base power, Ominous Wind offers much better coverage and has a small chance of turning Popcorn into a God. A +1 boost in every stat isn't even fair, and is pretty much gameover for anyone who runs into it. I personally care more about the coverage, but luck hax is luck hax.

I'm really stuggling to find a sixth spot. I want it to do so many things, yet there's simply not one pokemon that can do them all. I think the most important things are than I want a Pokemon who can bait Electric attacks for Electivire, and a Pokemon that isn't weak to Ground type moves, as I already have two.

Two of my favorite pokes.  I've had a lot of success with Lum Berry/Harvest Trev and usually go with a stall set (Leech See/Curse, Will-o-wisp, Horn Leech and Rest).  He has decent synergy with Slowking as well.  Usually one if not both are on my UU teams :)

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

I updated the OP with details on every set.

That's a good team. Trick Room is always annoying to deal with, expecially when one is running a fast offensive team. I'd switch Fire Punch for Knock Off. It offers better coverage, screws with an opponent's items, and handles ghosts types well. That's especially useful since half of your team is weak to them.

If you do change that move, I'd recommend Expert Belt over Life Orb. It requires good prediction to get the best use out of it, but it allows Machamp to fight without an expiration, and it only loses out on 10% extra power, which is pretty insignificant after a 2x Super Effective hit.

Hm... Maybe I could Baton Pass with Vaporeon instead? For it's Bulky Substitutes? And being able to bait Tbolts? My issue is that I'm not to much a fan of set up Pokemon because they are much of the time dead weight once the Pokemon they support are out. I do like support though, since they are more likely to hold their own.

Notice how I have no walls. If I have a bulky Pokemon, it's always more of a tank.

Calm mind definitely would help Mega Altaria out though, as it's not a heavy hitter at all. I wish it had Shadow Ball.
