Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ed Sheeran Thanks Mom For Keeping Him Away From Video Games

"So all the time that my friends were playing Grand Theft Auto, I was sat there practicing the guitar over and over and over again."

English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran never played video games growing up, something he now thanks his parents for, in part because it helped him pursue other creative avenues, like guitar.

The Mirror UK has published an excerpt from his new book, Ed Sheeran: A Visual Journey, which, among other things, includes a passage about video games.

"We didn't own a video games console and I honestly think that was one of the best things my mum never did," he said. "So all the time that my friends were playingGrand Theft Auto, I was sat there practicing the guitar over and over and over again."

"To this day, I don't know what to do on an Xbox or a PlayStation."

Apparently, however, Sheeran now wishes he knew how to play video games so he could join in with hisFIFA-playing tour mates.

Sheeran also reveals that he didn't have a TV growing up "because my mum didn't want us to be sat in front of the TV all the time."

Sheeran has since become an international superstar, touring with Taylor Swift, selling millions of albums, and even writing an original song for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit that is really, really good. His latest record, X, was released in June 2014, featuring hit singles "Sing," "Don't," and "Thinking Out Loud," among others.

It's never too late to start playing.

I guess I might as well take this opportunity to thank my mother for not buying me a guitar.

Well, good for him.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

I'll thank myself to not listening to his songs. Slarvax, you're the best :')

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Actually... if you dont start young, you wont have the eye-hand coordination necessary to not be clumsy with a controller.

I'm sure there are plenty of succesful musicians who did play games or watch tv, so his point is kind of moot.
